Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I love ‘Dad’s Army’! 🙂 It’s a BBC sitcom TV series that I don’t think will ever be unfunny as the years go by. It’s a comedy series that’s still being talked about, even today. I’m glad to have shared my reviews on the episodes featured in the series and its many adaptations.
The first time I shared anything ‘Dad’s Army’-related on my blog was in December 2015 when Day 15 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar in that year was about the BBC sitcom TV series. It set the wheels in motion in terms of me sharing ‘Dad’s Army’ reviews.
Shortly afterwards, I saw the TV docudrama ‘We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story’ and did a quick review on it afterwards during that Christmas period. I’m very pleased that I saw the docudrama when it was shown on TV, since it celebrated the making of the series.
Not long after in February 2016, I saw the ‘Dad’s Army’ 2016 movie and shared a quick review on it. I can’t say it’s as funny as the original BBC TV series, but it’s opened my eyes to what could have been done better and made me appreciate the original TV series more.
From June to December 2016, I shared my reviews on the ‘Dad’s Army’ TV series itself and created a new page for the comedy series. It was good to share my thoughts on every episode. I’m happy I was able to do reviews on all the episodes within that period of time.
In June 2018, I shared my review on the 2015 animation version of the missing Series 2 episode ‘A Stripe For Frazer’. At the time, I purchased the episode via Amazon Prime Video. This was before the episode got its re-release in ‘The Missing Episodes’ DVD in late 2023.
Speaking of which, I’m currently in the process of updating my reviews on the missing ‘Dad’s Army’ episodes based on ‘The Missing Episodes’ DVD release with new animations. These include ‘The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Walker’ and ‘Under Fire’.
I hope to complete my updates on those reviews soon. In July 2018, I saw a theatre production of ‘Dad’s Army’ by the Everyman Theatre Company in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. It was a very enjoyable production featuring adaptations of three episodes of the classic TV show.
These included ‘Sgt. Wilson’s Little Secret’, ‘The Godiva Affair’ and ‘The Deadly Attachment’. From October 2018 to October 2019, I shared my reviews on the ‘Dad’s Army’ radio series. I also reviewed the very first pilot episode of ‘It Sticks Out Half a Mile’.
I’ve enjoyed the ‘Dad’s Army’ radio series as much as I’ve enjoyed reviewing the ‘Dad’s Army’ TV series. It has been fascinating to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the TV and radio episodes and identify which is better than the other.
In February 2020, I shared an in-depth review on ‘Dad’s Army: The Movie’, which was made in 1971. I also did in-depth reviews on ‘We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story’ and the 2016 ‘Dad’s Army’ movie, which I’m pleased about in sharing more thoughts on them.
I also shared my reviews on the 2019 live-action remakes of the lost ‘Dad’s Army’ episodes, which I’ve enjoyed. I’ve also enjoyed the Channel 5 documentary ‘We Love Dad’s Army’, which was transmitted on TV in December 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sadly, we lost Ian Lavender who played Private Pike in ‘Dad’s Army’, as he passed away in February 2024. This was after seeing him introduce the colourised version of ‘Room at the Bottom’ in the ‘Dad’s Army: The Missing Episodes’ DVD, which I enjoyed seeing at the time.
At this point, as well as updating ‘Dad’s Army’ reviews based on ‘The Missing Episodes’ DVD, I also hope to update my ‘Dad’s Army’ reviews based on the ‘Dad’s Army: The Radio Show’ audio release by Big Finish. ‘Dad’s Army’ is a series that I truly enjoyed sharing on my blog. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

It’s always quite noteworthy how a movie version of an acclaimed TV series can influence how we look back on the TV series. I had finally gotten round to The Fugitive series including its finale just in time before the Oscar-nominated movie to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It encouraged me to see many others from The Brady Bunch to Miami Vice. In a reality for the entertainment world where much of the time you just can’t beat the most original appeals of a fictional legacy, it’s good to know that reviewers like you, Tim, can help generate more appreciation for the juggernauts that fans are all indebted to. Thank you so much.

Hi scifimike,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m currently hoping to share my latest ‘Dad’s Army’ reviews on ‘The Missing Episodes’ animations as well as ‘The Radio Show’ audios by Big Finish soon. It’s been great checking out ‘Dad’s Army’ in all its iterations, especially in radio/audio versions, animation versions, live-action remake versions and movie versions like the 1971 and 2016 films to appreciate how they compare to the original TV show I grew up loving and watching. Thanks for sharing your kind words about how I handle my reviews in this regard.
Best wishes,
Tim 🙂
