Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out ‘The Web of Fear’, a six-part ‘Doctor Who’ story that features the second appearance of the Yeti in the TV series. Like ‘The Enemy of the World’, this was another ‘Doctor Who’ classic adventure that was considered lost from the BBC Archives before it was found and recovered in October 2013. Now the story can be enjoyed on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. The story stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Deborah Watling as Victoria. It also features the return of Jack Watling as Professor Travers and it introduces Nicholas Courtney as Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart. Continue reading →

Let’s check out ‘The Abominable Snowmen’, a six-part ‘Doctor Who’ story that introduces the Yeti and the Great Intelligence. It also stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Deborah Watling as Victoria. This ‘Doctor Who’ story has recently been animated for DVD and Blu-ray, as it’s currently one of the mostly missing ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the black-and-white days with ‘Episode Two’ still intact. ‘Episode Two’ of ‘The Abominable Snowmen’ is also available to check out on Britbox.
