Cinema Experience – ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For my birthday last Wednesday, I went to see a re-release of ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’ at Showcase Cinema in Nantgarw. It’s amazing to think that it’s been 25 years since the release of that movie in 1999 and it’s amazing it’s been able to get a limited re-release at cinemas. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Asylum of the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And welcome to Series 7 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Here we are on Series 7 – Part 1, starring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. This is what I would like to label as the Pond Season in Series 7 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Series 7 – Part 1 depicts the five final adventures of the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory as a TARDIS trio. Will they be a satisfying final set of adventures featuring Eleven, Amy and Rory? We begin the season with ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ by Steven Moffat. This adventure features a variety of Daleks from both the classic TV series and the new TV series versions of ‘Doctor Who’. There’s also the introduction of Jenna-Louise Coleman as Oswin Oswald, whom the Doctor communicates via various intercoms throughout the adventure. Is ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ a satisfying Dalek adventure for me? Did I find it better than ‘Victory of the Daleks’ from Series 5? 😀 ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Planet of the Ood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s another one of my favourite episodes in Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out ‘Planet of the Ood’ by Keith Temple, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. This episode of course features the return of the Ood, voiced by Silas Carson, who appeared in ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ in Series 2. In ‘Planet of the Ood’, the Doctor and Donna must uncover the mystery that’s happening on the Ood-Sphere in the 42nd century, since ‘the circle must be broken’ for the Ood to sing. There are special guest stars like Tim McInnerny (who’s been in ‘Blackadder’, the ‘101 Dalmatians’ live-action films and ‘Johnny English Reborn’ as well as the ‘Doctor Who’ audio adaptation of ‘The Well-Mannered War’) as Mr. Halpen in the episode. There’s also Ayesha Dharker as Solana Mercurio and Adrian Rawlins as Dr. Ryder. ‘Planet of the Ood’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

Here’s another two-part adventure in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’. It’s time for ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ by Matt Jones. In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose visit a planet where there is a sanctuary base and the planet happens to be close to a stable black hole in space. We’re introduced to the spaghetti-like Ood ( 😀 ), voiced by Silas Carlson, and there’s the sanctuary base crew, including Shaun Parkes as Zachary, Danny Webb as Mr. Jefferson, Claire Rushbrook as Ida, Will Thorp as Toby, Ronny Jhutti as Danny and MyAnna Buring as Scooti. Will the Tenth Doctor, Rose and their new friends survive the threat of the demonic Beast, voiced by Gabriel Woolf (who played Sutekh in ‘Pyramids of Mars’) whilst the sanctuary base is under siege by possessed Ood? ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer.
