Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the third story in Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. Today, it’s time for ‘Silver Nemesis’, which is the actual 25th anniversary story of the season and it features the return of the Cybermen as well as featuring neo-Nazis, Lady Peinforte and Richard. I’ve updated and extended my thoughts on the story, based on my revisit of ‘Silver Nemesis’ via the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. ‘Silver Nemesis’ is a three-part adventure by Kevin Clarke. For the Season 25 Blu-ray box set, there are four versions of the story, including the original three-part story, the three-part Special Edition version, the 55-minute Special Edition omnibus version and the three-part extended VHS version from 1993. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In the third week of our look into Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, it’s time to check out the third story of the season called ‘Mawdryn Undead’, which is also the first story of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’. This is a four-part story by Peter Grimwade, who previously directed ‘Full Circle’, ‘Logopolis’, ‘Kinda’ and ‘Earthshock’ and wrote ‘Time-Flight’. The story is directed by Peter Moffatt, who previously directed ‘State of Decay’ and ‘The Visitation’. ‘Mawdryn Undead’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan. The story features the return of Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, the introduction of new ‘Doctor Who’ companion Mark Strickson as Turlough, and the return of Valentine Dyall as the Black Guardian. Whilst ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ is one of the stories of the 25th anniversary season of ‘Doctor Who’ – Season 25 – it’s not the actual anniversary story to celebrate 25 years of the show. It’s actually ‘Silver Nemesis’, a three-part adventure by Kevin Clarke, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. The TARDIS duo find themselves up against Neo-Nazis, Lady Peniforte and Cybermen, when on a quest to search for a living metal statue called Nemesis. Is this a worthy anniversary story to celebrate 25 years of ‘Doctor Who’, or do I think ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ is better? ‘Silver Nemesis’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Colin Baker/Sixth Doctor era. It’s time for us to enjoy a multi-Doctor story that’s not an anniversary special. Today, we’re looking at ‘The Two Doctors’, a three-part 45-minute episode story by Robert Holmes. This story stars Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. It also features the return of Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie. There are also the potato-headed Sontarans and the story introduces a new race of aliens called the Androgums, including ‘Blake’s 7’s Jacqueline Pearce as Chessene and John Stratton as Shockeye. There’s a sunny atmosphere about this story, as some of it takes place in Seville in Spain. ‘The Two Doctors’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading →

Here we are at the end of Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s also the beginning of a new era in ‘Doctor Who’, as we’re introduced to Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. He’s joined by Nicola Bryant as Peri in this four-part adventure by Anthony Steven called ‘The Twin Dilemma’. This story also features special guest stars like Maurice Denham, Kevin McNally and Edwin Richfield. Over the years, ‘The Twin Dilemma’ is regarded as the worst ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made. It’s time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, as we take a look at the 20th anniversary special called ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks. ‘The Five Doctors’ stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, William Hartnell and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, and Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. There’s also Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Lalla Ward as Romana and more. I highly recommend watching the 101-minute Special Edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’, as that has more scenes and CGI effects in it. You can check out the Special Edition version on Disc 2 of the 25th Anniversary 2-disc DVD edition of ‘The Five Doctors’. It’s Spring Bank Holiday Monday in May in the UK today, and it’s time for the first story of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’ in Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – ‘Mawdryn Undead’. This a four-part story by Peter Grimwade, starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan. As well as the return of Valentine Dyall as the Black Guardian, this story also features the return of Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier. This story also introduces us to new companion Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough.
