‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the season finale of Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! 🙂 This is a three-part story by Russell T. Davies called ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones are joined by John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, as the TARDIS takes them to the end of the universe, which is 100 trillion years in the future. There they meet Derek Jacobi as Professor Yana, who turns out to be the Master. Soon, the Master regenerates into John Simm and he becomes Prime Minister of Great Britain in Martha’s time. Can the Doctor, Martha and Jack thwart the evil machinations of the Master before the planet Earth is taken over completely. ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ’42’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In today’s instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, it’s time for us to check out the first ‘Doctor Who’ episode penned by Chris Chibnall. 🙂 Today, we’re checking out ’42’, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha. In this episode, the Doctor and Martha have literally 42 minutes to stop a spaceship from crashing into a sun in deep space. The episode features special guest stars like Michelle Collins (of ‘EastEnders’ fame) as Captain Kath McDonnell. There’s also William Ash as Riley Vashtee, Anthony Flanagan as Orin Scannell, Matthew Chambers as Hal Korwin, Vinette Robinson as Abi Lerner, Gary Powell as Dev Ashton and Rebecca Oldfield as Erina Lessak. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re now on the first two-part story in Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. It’s time for ‘Daleks In Manhattan’/’Evolution of the Daleks’ by Helen Raynor. In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, the Doctor and Martha visit New York on Earth in the year 1930 where the Daleks are causing trouble at the Empire State Building. There are several special guest stars in this two-part story, including Miranda Raison (before she became Sixth Doctor companion Constance Clarke) as Tallulah, Andrew Garfield (before he became Peter Parker/Spider-Man in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ movies) as Frank, and Eric Loren as Mr. Diagoras who becomes Dalek Sec in the story. ‘Daleks In Manhattan’/’Evolution of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Shakespeare Code’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re checking out the second episode of Series 3 – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor – in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Shakespeare Code’ by Gareth Roberts. In this ‘Doctor Who’ episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones travel back in time to the Globe Theatre in London in the year 1599 where they meet Dean Lennox Kelly as William Shakespeare (Thankfully, a more heroic version of Shakespeare compared to the one depicted in the Big Finish audio ‘The Kingmaker’ 😀 ). Whilst meeting the playwright, the Doctor and Martha uncover the mystery about Shakespeare’s lost play ‘Love’s Labour’s Won’ as well as confronting the three witch-like Carrionites. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And welcome to Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. In this season, David Tennant is joined by Freema Agyeman (who previously played Adeola Oshodi in ‘Army of Ghosts’ – Martha’s cousin in fact) as Martha Jones, a medical doctor-in-training. In ‘Smith and Jones’ by Russell T. Davies, Martha meets the Tenth Doctor at a hospital, which gets plucked out from Earth and is put on the Moon. There, the hospital is visited by a platoon of rhino-like aliens called the Judoon. The Doctor and Martha must find out why the Judoon have taken the hospital out from Earth before they can put it back where it was. This episode also features Anne Reid as Florence Finnegan and Roy Marsden as Mr. Stoker. There’s also Martha’s family, including Adjoa Andoh as Francine, Martha’s mum; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Tish, Martha’s sister; Reggie Yates as Leo, Martha’s brother; and Trevor Laird as Clive, Martha’s dad. ‘Smith and Jones’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Runaway Bride’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special in the new TV series that was shown on BBC TV in December 2006. This is ‘The Runaway Bride’ by Russell T. Davies, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. In this Christmas Special, the Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who mysteriously appears in the TARDIS and is wearing a wedding dress. 😀 The Doctor must help Donna solve the mystery of why she ended up in the TARDIS and not at her wedding. This leads them to a mysterious and abandoned Torchwood base under the river Thames in London, where they find themselves up against the spider-like Empress of Racnoss, played by Sarah Parish. The special also features Don Gilét as Lance Bennett, Donna’s fiancé; Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Donna’s mum; and the late Howard Attfield as Geoff Noble, Donna’s dad. This is what I got my Mum for Christmas in 2019. I got her the complete series of ‘The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries’ starring Diana Rigg of ‘The Avengers’ fame and Neil Dudgeon. My parents and I enjoyed this crime investigation drama series set in the 1920s. It had good old-fashioned murder mysteries. 🙂 Continue reading
