Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the third story in Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. Today, it’s time for ‘Silver Nemesis’, which is the actual 25th anniversary story of the season and it features the return of the Cybermen as well as featuring neo-Nazis, Lady Peinforte and Richard. I’ve updated and extended my thoughts on the story, based on my revisit of ‘Silver Nemesis’ via the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. ‘Silver Nemesis’ is a three-part adventure by Kevin Clarke. For the Season 25 Blu-ray box set, there are four versions of the story, including the original three-part story, the three-part Special Edition version, the 55-minute Special Edition omnibus version and the three-part extended VHS version from 1993. Today, it’s time to check out the second story in Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Happiness Patrol’, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. I’ve updated and extended my thoughts on the story, based on my revisit of ‘The Happiness Patrol’ via the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. ‘The Happiness Patrol’ is a three-part adventure by Graeme Curry, who sadly passed away in 2019. Like ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, there are two versions of the story on two discs in the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. There’s the original three-part story on Disc 3 and the three-part Special Edition version of ‘The Happiness Patrol’ on Disc 4. Continue reading →

In case you missed it yesterday, I’ve updated my review on ‘The Five Doctors’, the seventh and final story of Season 20 in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. In doing so, I’ve updated my review on ‘Messages From Space’, a DVD special feature included on the ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ 40th anniversary disc for ‘The Collection’ range of classic ‘Doctor Who’ Blu-ray box sets. This is now included on Disc 8 of the Season 20 Blu-ray box set containing the 40th anniversary edition version of ‘The Five Doctors’. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on what I consider to be a very significant story in Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, we’re checking out the fourth story of the season called ‘Terminus’, and it’s the second story of ‘The Black Guardian Trilogy’. ‘Terminus’ is a four-part story by Stephen Gallagher, who previously penned ‘Warriors’ Gate’ in Season 18. The story is directed by Mary Ridge, who previously directed six episodes of ‘Blake’s 7’. ‘Terminus’ is the final TV adventure to feature Sarah Sutton as Nyssa in ‘Doctor Who’. It’s a very special story for me, as it began what prompted me to go to ‘Doctor Who’ conventions and meet people like Sarah Sutton, Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson who appear in this story. Valentine Dyall returns as the Black Guardian in this ‘Doctor Who’ story and there’s also the introduction of the Vanir and the Garm. Continue reading →

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We continue our look into Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, as we check out the second story of the season called ‘Snakedance’, a four-part adventure by Christopher Bailey. This is a sequel to ‘Kinda’ from Season 19, as it features the return of the malicious Mara. It stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan. Tegan is haunted by the Mara again and becomes possessed once the TARDIS takes the trio to the planet Manussa. This story features special guest stars Martin Clunes in his first ever TV role as Lon. There’s also Colette O’Neil as Tanha, Lon’s mother, John Carson as Ambril, Brian Miller (Elisabeth Sladen’s real-life husband) as Dugdale, Jonathon Morris as Chela and Preston Lockwood as Dojeen. And here we are on the sixth and final story of Season 15 in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for an updated review on the six-part season finale ‘The Invasion of Time’ by David Agnew. The review was done by me and Timelord007 back in 2017. Today, we’re sharing our updated thoughts on the story, which sees Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor returning to Gallifrey, along with Louise Jameson as Leela and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. The guest cast includes John Arnatt as Chancellor Borusa, Milton Johns as Castellan Kelner, Chris Tranchell as Andred and Hilray Ryan as Rodan. The story also features the mysterious Vardans, and the war-like Sontarans, led by Derek Deadman as Commander Stor. This story also features the departure of Leela and K-9 Mark I. Continue reading →

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the fourth story in Season 15 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, based on its ‘Collection’ Blu-ray box set. It’s time for ‘The Sun Makers’ by Robert Holmes, directed by the late Pennant Roberts. This is a ‘Doctor Who’ story where the planet Pluto is being taxed to death. There’s Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela, and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. It’s good to see K-9 appear properly in this ‘Doctor Who’ story, following his absence in ‘Image of the Fendahl’. There’s a good guest cast in this adventure, including the likes of Henry Woolf, Richard Leech, Jonina Scott, Roy Macready, David Rowlands, William Simons, Adrienne Burgess and Michael Keating. Here we are, everyone! I’ve been able to update my reviews on the nine stories featured in Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, since it was re-released on Blu-ray back in December 2022. For the next two weeks, I’ll be sharing my updated thoughts on each of the nine stories in Season 2. The season stars William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara. Carole Ann Ford stars as Susan in the first two stories of Season 2, Maureen O’Brien stars as Vicki in the rest of the season, and Peter Purves stars as Steven in the last two stories.
