Jean Marsh (1934-2025)

Hello everyone.

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

I’m saddened Jean Marsh has passed away. For many, Jean Marsh co-created and starred in the ITV series ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’. She also co-created the BBC TV series called ‘The House of Elliot’ with Eileen Atkins (who also co-created ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ with Jean). Continue reading

Week 54 – ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ UPDATED

–UPDATED REVIEW ON AUDIO STORY TODAY–

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Happy New Year everyone! Once again, I had in mind to check out and review the ‘Doctor Who’ book called ‘Doctor Who in Wonderland’ by Paul Magrs, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough. Sadly, I’ve been very busy these past few months and haven’t been able to put together all the Nyssa stories I wanted to review for the 2024-25 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season. Hopefully, I’ll be back on track later in 2025 with putting together brand-new reviews on the latest ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring Nyssa, including the ‘Doctor Who in Wonderland’ book, which I’m looking forward to reading. Season 2 of ‘Doctor Who’ with William Hartnell on Blu-ray #6

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In today’s instalment of our look into Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series via its Blu-ray box set, we come to what’s considered an oddity in the season. Not so much on the story, but the fact that it happens to be an incomplete story featured in the story. It’s time for the four-part story ‘The Crusade’ by David Whitaker, which has two of the four episodes still remaining. The first and third episodes are intact whilst the second and fourth episodes are filled in by telesnap reconstructions on ‘The Crusade’s Blu-ray disc. The story stars William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara and Maureen O’Brien as Vicki. There are also special guest stars Julian Glover as Richard the Lionheart and Jean Marsh as Joanna, King Richard’s sister. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And welcome to Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s Sylvester McCoy’s third and final season as the Seventh Doctor, and it’s the final season of the classic TV series. Today, we’re starting the season off with ‘Battlefield’, a four-part story by Ben Aaronovitch, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This story is a U.N.I.T. adventure, featuring the return of Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart and it introduces Angela Bruce as Brigadier Winifred Bambera. There’s also Jean Marsh who guest stars as Morgaine. ‘Battlefield’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. I highly recommend checking out the movie-length Special Edition version of this story, which is on DVD and Blu-ray. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 3 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 3 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is a transitionary season for William Hartnell as the First Doctor. What he used to know about ‘Doctor Who’ in the previous seasons with Ian, Barbara and Susan is mostly absent, especially when Verity Lambert has left the producer role of the TV series. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

This is a big one! It’s time to check out the epic 12-part ‘Doctor Who’ story called ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’, starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor and Peter Purves as Steven. You can listen to ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’ soundtrack on audio CD or Audible, and you can watch the second, fifth and tenth surviving episodes of the story in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection. The story also introduces us to Nicholas Courtney (before he became the Brigadier) as Bret Vyon, and Kevin Stoney (before he became Tobias Vaughn in ‘The Invasion’) as the villainous Mavic Chen. Adrienne Hill also appears as Katarina, following her debut in ‘The Myth Makers’. It also features the introduction of Jean Marsh as Sara Kindgom. The seventh episode is a Christmas episode, would you believe? 😀 And the eighth to tenth episodes also feature the return of Peter Butterworth as the Meddling Monk. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Crusade’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to have another venture into history with ‘Doctor Who’, as the First Doctor TARDIS team end up in 12th Century Palestine. There, King Richard the Lionheart engages in a holy war with the Saracen leader Saladin. The story features special guest stars Julian Glover as King Richard and Jean Marsh as his sister Joanna. Sadly, only the first and third episodes of this four-part story have survived in the BBC Archives. You can check out the first and third episodes of ‘The Crusade’ in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection, in the Season 2 Blu-ray box set, and/or Britbox. You can also enjoy the entire four-part story on audio CD or as a download from Audible. Continue reading

Quick TV Episode Review – ‘Grantchester’, Series 1, Episode 3

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I’ve seen the third episode of Series 1 of ‘Grantchester’ this week. I’m really getting into these early ‘Grantchester’ episodes and I’m enjoying them every Wednesday. I recognised some faces in this episode. There was even one face I thought I recognised but it wasn’t actually who I was thinking of. 😀 Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s the penultimate review in this year’s 55th anniversary celebration of ‘Doctor Who’ on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ and it’s also the eve before the 55th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’ takes place. So what better thing to look into than the docu-drama that details how the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series began in 1963. Continue reading
