‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Planet of the Spiders’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’ve come to the end of Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the end of the Jon Pertwee era. Season 11 concludes in the six-part adventure called ‘Planet of the Spiders’. As well as Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, this story also features Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. There are also giant spiders featured in this story. Is one of them Shelob from ‘The Lord of the Rings’? 😀 ‘Planet of the Spiders’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading →

It’s time for us to come to an end with Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with Colin Baker. Today, we look at the sixth and final story in Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘Revelation of the Daleks’, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. They come up against Terry Molloy who returns as Davros as well as his creations, the Daleks, at Tranquil Repose on the planet Necros. We come now to what I consider to be the weakest story in Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘Timelash’. It’s been nice to revisit this ‘Doctor Who’ story in the Season 22 Blu-ray box set, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. Season 17 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Tom Baker on Blu-ray #3

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the third story of Season 17 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with Tom Baker. Today, we take a look at ‘The Creature From The Pit’, a four-part adventure by David Fisher, starring Tom Baker and Lalla Ward, who are joined by K-9 (voiced by David Brierley). The story also features Myra Frances as Lady Adrasta, Geoffrey Bayldon as Organon and a peculiar alien creature called Erato. 😀 In terms of the story’s concepts and ideas, they’re very good. The overdose of humour and the execution of the titular ‘creature from the pit’ have a lot to be desired though. 😀 Continue reading →
