‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Praxeus’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s begin the second half of Series 12 in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series by checking out ‘Praxeus’ by Pete McTighe and Chris Chibnall. Pete McTighe contributed to ‘Doctor Who’ in Series 11 with the episode called ‘Kerblam!’. Is ‘Praxeus’ a step-up from ‘Kerblam!’ or do I think ‘Kerblam!’ is better than ‘Praxeus’? In the episode, Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz search across multiple countries, as they investigate strange phenomena, including birds acting strangely and a British astronaut called Adam Lang. The episode’s guest cast includes Warren Brown (who usually plays Sam Bishop in the new ‘U.N.I.T.’ audio series and the ‘Lady Christina’ audio series – both by Big Finish) as Jake Willis, and Matthew McNulty (who I’ve seen in Series 3 of the BBC TV series ‘The Musketeers’) as Adam Lang. Although entirely coincidental, ‘Praxeus’ has parallels to the Covid-19 virus, which was something that hadn’t come into full effect at the time of the episode’s transmission on BBC TV in February 2020. 😐 ‘Praxeus’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Kerblam!’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for my favourite episode in Series 11 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series as well as the Jodie Whittaker/Thirteenth Doctor era. Today, we’re checking out ‘Kerblam!’ by Pete McTighe, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz. Remember, “if you want it, Kerblam it!” 😀 This is an episode where the Thirteenth Doctor and her gang visit the delivery company called Kerblam in the far future. They investigate why a package sent to the Doctor in her TARDIS contained a message requesting for help. It turns out the company has some missing human employees and the automated workforce – the Kerblam men – are behaving oddly. 😐 The guest cast includes Julie Hesmondhalgh (of ‘Coronation Street’ fame) as Judy Maddox, Lee Mack (of ‘Not Going Out’ fame) as Dan Cooper, Callum Dixon as Jarva Slade, Claudie Jessia as Kira Arlo, Leo Flanagan as Charlie Duffy, and Matthew Gravelle as the voice of Kerblam. So, what is it about this ‘Doctor Who’ episode that makes me happy to see it every time I watch it? ‘Kerblam!’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

We’ve had quite a number of exciting ‘Doctor Who’ announcements recently, haven’t we? They’re for some new ‘Doctor Who’ merchandise items that are coming our way like a new Blu-ray box set and new ‘Doctor Who’ books. And you’re probably wondering whether I’ll be reviewing any of them. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out Season 23 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Season 23 is a fourteen-part story called ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’, and it’s Colin Baker’s second and (sadly) final season as the Sixth Doctor. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ is divided into four segments, including ‘The Mysterious Planet’ by Robert Holmes, ‘Mindwarp’ by Philip Martin, ‘Terror of the Vervoids’ by Pip and Jane Baker and ‘The Ultimate Foe’ by Robert Holmes & Pip and Jane Baker. As well as Colin Baker, there’s Michael Jayston as the Valeyard and Lynda Bellingham as the Inquisitor. There’s also the Doctor’s companions Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Time-Flight’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the season finale of Season 19 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out ‘Time-Flight’, a four-part story by Peter Grimwade. The story stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and Janet Fielding as Tegan. The TARDIS trio help to save a missing Concorde plane by going back in time to the prehistoric age on Earth. Janet Fielding as Tegan also makes her first departure from the series. This ‘Doctor Who’ story is considered one of the worst stories ever made in the entire series. Do I agree with that? ‘Time-Flight’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray or Britbox. Continue reading

Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Colin Baker on Blu-ray #5

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come now to what I consider to be the weakest story in Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘Timelash’. It’s been nice to revisit this ‘Doctor Who’ story in the Season 22 Blu-ray box set, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. They’re joined by Paul Darrow (of ‘Blake’s 7’ fame) as the villainous Tekker and the TARDIS duo also confront the monstrous Borad, played by Robert Ashby. Continue reading

Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Colin Baker on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to talk about my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Colin Baker era. It was also the first story for me to experience Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. We continue our look into Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with ‘The Two Doctors’, a multi-Doctor story featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. There’s also Frazer Hines as Jamie who accompanies Patrick Troughton’s Doctor as well as Nicola Bryant as Peri who accompanies Colin Baker’s Doctor. Continue reading

We’re back again with another updated review on a story in Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with Colin Baker. Today, it’s time to take a look at ‘The Mark of the Rani’, a story by Pip and Jane Baker, who make their first contribution to the TV series. It features Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Nicola Bryant as Peri, Anthony Ainley as the Master and Kate O’Mara as the Rani. Continue reading

Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Colin Baker on Blu-ray #2

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to continue checking out Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with Colin Baker, as we look into the second TV story of the season called ‘Vengeance on Varos’. This is the first ‘Doctor Who’ story by writer Philip Martin and it introduces the character of Sil, played by Nabil Shaban. This ‘Doctor Who’ story has divided opinion on whether it’s nice or whether it’s nasty. 😀 Continue reading
