Season 9 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Jon Pertwee on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the fourth story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for us to check out ‘The Mutants’, a six-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. In this adventure, the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the planet Solo during the Earth Empire period of the 30th century. The Doctor has to deliver a spherical pod to someone that could provide the key to Solos’ future. The story features guest stars like Paul Whitsun-Jones as the villainous Marshal and Garrick Hagon as Ky, a Solonian who is against the Earth Empire’s (or ‘Overlords’ as the Solonians call them) presence on Solos. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dark Water’/Death In Heaven’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the two-part season finale in Series 8 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘Dark Water’/’Death In Heaven’ by Steven Moffat. Samuel Anderson as Danny Pink gets killed off in the story, and he finds himself in an afterlife called the Nethersphere. Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald try to locate him and they soon meet up with Michelle Gomez as Missy, who unveils her true identity in the story. There’s the return of the ‘Nightmare In Silver’ Cybermen, who are a part of Missy’s plans in the Nethersphere. And there’s the return of U.N.I.T., including Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart and Ingrid Oliver as Osgood, who help the Doctor in thwarting Missy and the Cybermen. This ‘Doctor Who’ story has been praised highly by the critics, especially with regards to Michelle Gomez as Missy and the story’s darker and mature themes. Is this an assessment and an opinion I agree with? Is this a ‘Doctor Who’ story that truly satisfies me when it comes to revisiting it now and again? ‘Dark Water’/’Death In Heaven’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – 2008-2010 Specials Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Despite them not being an actual season (technically they’re part of Series 4), the 2008-2010 Specials of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series could be argued as being David Tennant’s fifth season of ‘Doctor Who’. This is despite him not having a regular companion accompanying him in the specials. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Series 4 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In my opinion, Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is the best season out of the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era. I have very fond memories of this season when I saw it back in 2008. It was my first proper ‘Doctor Who’ season to watch on TV after I saw the previous seasons on DVD. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the first two-part story in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, and it’s the story that features the return of the Cybermen in the new TV series. This is ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ by Tom MacRae, and it’s a pretty compelling story where I got introduced to the Cybermen in 2006 and found them terrifying on my first watch. 😀 In the story, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose and Noel Clarke as Mickey end up in a parallel universe. There are parallel universe versions of Rose’s parents – Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. There’s also Roger Lloyd-Pack as John Lumic – the head of Cybus Industries and the creator of the new Cybermen on parallel Earth. 😮 ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. The Doctor must save Madame de Pompadour from the menace of the Clockwork Droids who have come to collect her. Will this episode end happily for both the Tenth Doctor and Madame de Pompadour? ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
