Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out the third story of Season 26 in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘The Curse of Fenric’, a four-part story by Ian Briggs, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. The Doctor and Ace visit a British naval installation near Maiden’s Point on the Northumberland coast during World War II, where Ace gets to uncover more about her past. There’s also the appearance of the vampiric-like Haemovores. This story also features special guest star Nicholas Parsons as Reverend Wainwright. ‘The Curse of Fenric’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. I highly recommend checking out the movie-length Special Edition version of this story, which is on DVD and Blu-ray. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Ghost Light’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to talk about the second story in Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘Ghost Light’, a three-part adventure by Marc Platt, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. The story takes place at a haunted mansion in Perivale called Gabriel Chase in the year 1883. There are special guest stars like Ian Hogg, Michael Cochrane, Sharon Duce, Frank Windsor, Sylvia Sims, etc. There are two viewpoints on how this story is rated. One that praises this story highly and the other that doesn’t get what the story’s about. Which viewpoint am I siding with? ‘Ghost Light’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. The TARDIS duo visit the Psychic Circus, where we meet Ian Reddington as the Chief Clown, T. P. McKenna as Captain Cook, Jessica Martin as Mags, Chris Jury as Deadbeat, and many more. This is another ‘Doctor Who’ story that has been highly rated by the fans. Am I one of those fans who likes ‘The Greatest Show In The Galaxy’ or is it rather underwhelming? ‘The Greatest Show In The Galaxy’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Shada’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

How fitting that on the 8th of May – my birthday as well as a Bank Holiday – we look at another one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Fourth Doctor era as well as the actual finale to Season 17 of the classic TV series. This is ‘Shada’, a six-part adventure by Douglas Adams, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Lalla Ward as Romana and K-9, voiced by David Brierley. This story was never shown on TV in 1979, but thankfully it has been completed with animation and was released in 2017. You can check out the feature-length 2017 film version of ‘Shada’ on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox and you can check out the exclusive six-part 2021 version of the story on Blu-ray. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Day of the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s begin Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with a Dalek story. 🙂 This is ‘Day of the Daleks’, a four-part story starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. I highly recommend checking out the Special Edition version of the story on the 2-disc DVD release, since that has impressive CGI effects and impressive Dalek voices by Nicholas Briggs. The Special Edition version of ‘Day of the Daleks’ is also available on Britbox, which is fantastic. 😀 The story will soon be re-released in the Season 9 Blu-ray box set, so watch out for that. 😀 Continue reading

Today, it’s time for us to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ story in the classic TV series to be written by Robert Holmes, except it’s mostly missing from the BBC Archive, with one episode still intact – ‘Episode Two’. It’s also considered one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made, starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe. ‘The Space Pirates’ can be checked out on audio CD or as a download via Audible. ‘Episode Two’ of the story can be seen in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection as well as on Britbox. Here’s another one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Patrick Troughton era! 🙂 This is ‘The Invasion’, an epic eight-part story where Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe face the Cybermen again. They also confront Kevin Stoney as the villainous Tobias Vaughn and they’re joined by Nicholas Courtney, who is promoted as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and is the leader of U.N.I.T., a new taskforce tackling alien invasions of Earth. Two missing episodes of ‘The Invasion’ have been animated for DVD. ‘The Invasion’ is currently available to check out on DVD and on Britbox. Continue reading
