‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘City of Death’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out my absolute favourite Fourth Doctor/Tom Baker era ‘Doctor Who’ story. Here we are on ‘City of Death’, a four-part story by ‘David Agnew’ (pseudonym for David Fisher, Douglas Adams and Graham Williams). This is the second story in the classic TV series of ‘Doctor Who’, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Lalla Ward as Romana. There are also special guest stars like Julian Glover, Catherine Schell, Tom Chadbon, David Graham, Peter Halliday, John Cleese and Eleanor Bron. ‘City of Death’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. And welcome to Season 17 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! This is the season where Douglas Adams (author of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’) is the script editor. To start off the season, we look at ‘Destiny of the Daleks’, a four-part story by Terry Nation which features the Daleks of course, the return of Davros (played by David Gooderson) and introduces the robotic Movellans. ‘Destiny of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Power of Kroll’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re taking a look at the fifth and penultimate story of ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is the second story in ‘The Key to Time’ season to be penned by Robert Holmes (his first was ‘The Ribos Operation’). ‘The Power of Kroll’ is a four-part story, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Mary Tamm as Romana. K-9 doesn’t feature in this story, though John Leeson gets to play a human character called Dugeen in this. The story also features Philip Madoc (well-known for being in the ‘Dad’s Army’ episode ‘The Deadly Attachment’ as well as three ‘Doctor Who’ stories and a ‘Doctor Who’ movie beforehand) as Fenner. ‘The Power of Kroll’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the fourth story in ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and another one of my favourites from the season. This is ‘The Androids of Tara’, another four-part adventure by David Fisher, who previously wrote ‘The Stones of Blood’. The story stars Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as Romana, and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. The story also features Peter Jeffrey as Count Grendel. This swashbuckling ‘Doctor Who’ story is inspired by ‘The Prisoner of Zenda’ by Anthony Hope. ‘The Androids of Tara’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Stones of Blood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s another one of my favourite stories in ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out ‘The Stones of Blood’, a four-part adventure by David Fisher. In the story, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as Romana, and K-9, voiced by John Leeson visit the planet Earth to locate the third segment of the Key to Time. They come across a stone circle where alien stones come to life and suck people dry of their blood. This is another story that helped me with my ‘Doctor Who’ writing, particularly for the ‘Fifth Doctor’ adventure ‘The Railway of Time’. 🙂 ‘The Stones of Blood’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Pirate Planet’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come to one of my favourite stories in ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Pirate Planet’, a four-part adventure by Douglas Adams, who is well-known for being the author of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’. This story stars Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as Romana, and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. The TARDIS trio end up on the planet Zanak, as they try to locate the second segment of the Key to Time and they come up against Bruce Purchase as the Pirate Captain. This story inspired me to create the atmosphere for my ‘Fifth Doctor’ adventure called ‘The Space Hotel’. 😀 ‘The Pirate Planet’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Ribos Operation’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Welcome to ‘The Key to Time’ season – Season 16 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. ‘The Key to Time’ season is my favourite season out of the entire Tom Baker/Fourth Doctor era. As well as Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, this season introduces us to Mary Tamm as new companion Romanadvoratrelundar – Romana for short – and K-9 Mark II, voiced by John Leeson. In the first story of ‘The Key to Time’ season called ‘The Ribos Operation’, the Fourth Doctor, Romana and K-9 are sent on a quest by the White Guardian to collect the six segments of the Key to Time. This four-part adventure by Robert Holmes can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. Continue reading
