In today’s instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, we’re looking at probably one of the most divisive stories ever featured in the classic TV series. It’s time for ‘Vengeance on Varos’, another two-part story, with the episodes being 45 minutes each, by Philip Martin, starring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. This story also introduces us to Nabil Shaban as the slimy and villainous Sil. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to begin the first full season of Colin Baker’s era of ‘Doctor Who’. This is Season 22, a ‘Doctor Who’ season featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. The first story of the season is called ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ by ‘Paula Moore’, featuring…you guessed it…the Cybermen. 😀 This also happens to be the first two-part story in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ series where the episodes are 45 minutes each. Maurice Colbourne also returns to play Lytton from ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ and Davros actor Terry Molloy makes an appearance as Russell. ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 21 is quite an unusual ‘Doctor Who’ season in the classic TV series. It’s Peter Davison’s third season as the Fifth Doctor, but it ends with Colin Baker introduced as the Sixth Doctor in ‘The Twin Dilemma’. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are at the end of Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s also the beginning of a new era in ‘Doctor Who’, as we’re introduced to Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. He’s joined by Nicola Bryant as Peri in this four-part adventure by Anthony Steven called ‘The Twin Dilemma’. This story also features special guest stars like Maurice Denham, Kevin McNally and Edwin Richfield. Over the years, ‘The Twin Dilemma’ is regarded as the worst ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made. Even though I was introduced to Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor in the TV series, the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ is the one that won me over as my absolute favourite. Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 21 isn’t over yet, but it’s time for the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ to come to an end. It’s time for ‘The Caves of Androzani’, a four-part story by Robert Holmes. This is rated as possibly the best ‘Doctor Who’ story ever made in the entire TV series. Is this something I agree with? In the story, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri visit the planet Androzani Minor, where they step into some raw spectrox and start to die from it. Can the Fifth Doctor save Peri in time from the poisonous effects of the deadly spectrox? There are some special guest cameos of Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and Anthony Ainley as the Master in the story. ‘The Caves of Androzani’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. ‘Planet of Fire’, the penultimate story of the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, features some departures as well as a few introductions. It’s a four-part story by Peter Grimwade in Season 21 of the classic TV series. As well as starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, the story features the ‘death’ of Anthony Ainley as the Master, the introduction of Nicola Bryant as Peri, the departure of Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough, the departure of Kamelion, voiced by Gerald Flood, and there’s the filming location of Lanzarote that doubles as Lanzarote and the planet Sarn. ‘Planet of Fire’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. It’s time for ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ by Eric Saward, the fourth story in Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Originally, this story was meant to be a four-part adventure before it became a two-part bumper edition story, with the episodes having lengths of 45 minutes each. The story has Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor fighting against the Daleks, along with their creator Davros, played by Terry Molloy. This story also features the final regular appearance of Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka. Mark Strickson also appears as Turlough, and there’s a special guest star appearance of Rodney Bewes, who was in ‘The Likely Lads’ and ‘Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads’. ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. It’s time for ‘Frontios’, a four-part story where Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Turlough as Turlough visit the planet Frontios where the woodlice-like Tractators are waiting. It’s time for the second story of Season 21 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, we’re taking a look at ‘The Awakening’, a two-part story by Eric Pringle, where Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough visit the English village of Little Hodcombe in the year 1984. There, Tegan tries to reunite with her grandfather, Andrew Verney, whilst a psychic alien creature called the Malus attempts to take control of the villagers in some deadly reenactments of the English Civil War. ‘The Awakening’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox.
