‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Night of the Doctor’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I know we’re jumping ahead with this one in terms of the TV series’ history for the 60th Anniversary Marathon, but we might as well talk about it here. It’s time to check out ‘The Night of the Doctor’ by Steven Moffat, a special six-minute mini-episode celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’. Transmitted in 2013, ‘The Night of the Doctor’ stars Paul McGann, who returns to play the Eighth Doctor. This mini-episode also features the regeneration between him and John Hurt as the War Doctor. There’s also Emma Campbell-Jones as Cass, who has reprised the role in a box set of Big Finish audios recently, and there’s Clare Higgins as Ohila of the Sisterhood of Karn. ‘The Night of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray, BBC iPlayer and here via the official ‘Doctor Who’ YouTube channel. 😀 Continue reading

CD Review – ‘The Witch From The Well’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

To sort-of close off our look into the Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ in the 60th Anniversary Marathon, let’s check out one of the many Big Finish audios featuring this particular incarnation of the character. For this occasion, I’ve chosen the second story of the Eighth Doctor/Mary Shelley trilogy of Big Finish audios that was released in 2011. This is ‘The Witch From The Well’, starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and Julie Cox as Mary Shelley. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Reflection on the Eighth Doctor

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In some respects, Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ only had one adventure in his TV tenure, which is of course ‘The TV Movie’. But like Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy before him, Paul McGann’s Doctor has been given a lease of life in so many mediums including comics, books and audios. Continue reading

I’ve seen the latest documentary film ‘Doctor Who Am I’! 🙂 I’ve been meaning to check this out for quite some time since I got the Blu-ray for Christmas last year. This is a good place to talk about the documentary film in the Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor era of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The TV Movie’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor era, which is technically the shortest-lived ‘Doctor Who’ era ever on TV. Thankfully, Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor has had a long life in the Big Finish audios. 😀 Let’s check out ‘The TV Movie’, which was shown on UK and USA TV in May 1996. The ‘Doctor Who’ TV Movie is by Matthew Jacobs and was directed by Geoffrey Sax. As well as Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, there’s Daphne Ashbrook as Grace Holloway, Yee Jee Tso as Chang Lee and Eric Roberts as the Master. This story also features the regeneration between Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor into Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. ‘The TV Movie’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. CD Review – ‘The Two Masters’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to come to a close on the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ in the 60th Anniversary Marathon, as we check out the third and final story in ‘The Two Masters Trilogy’ called…‘The Two Masters’. 😀 This is part of the multi-Doctor audio trilogy that was released by Big Finish in 2016. ‘The Two Masters’ is an epic four-part audio story by John Dorney for fans to enjoy. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Reflection on the Seventh Doctor

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Like the Colin Baker/Sixth Doctor era, the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ is arguably one of the shortest eras in the series. This was due to the increasing pressure made by the BBC in terms of scheduling the TV programme that eventually led to the show’s cancellation in 1989. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dimensions In Time’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Does this count as a proper ‘Doctor Who’ story? 😐 I don’t know, but I’m going to include it in my 60th Anniversary Marathon anyway. It’s time for ‘Dimensions In Time’, the 30th anniversary story that was released on Children In Need night back in November 1993. It’s a two-part adventure by John Nathan-Turner and David Roden, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Deborah Watling as Victoria, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Caroline John as Liz, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, Louise Jameson as Leela, K-9, voiced by John Leeson, Lalla Ward as Romana, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. I’ve updated my review slightly with new photos, thanks to the latest video on ‘Dimensions In Time’ by Critical Penguin, which you can check out on YouTube. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 26 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Season 26 – the third and final season of the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ – is a season where the show was getting to find its feet again on arguably what stories it could have told in the 1990s. This is thanks to how script editor Andrew Cartmel handled things with the stories. Continue reading
