‘An Unearthly Child’ and ‘An Adventure In Space and Time’ in 2023

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

(sighs) ‘An Unearthly Child’ is the very first ‘Doctor Who’ story in the classic TV series and it’s by a writer named Anthony Coburn. In October 2023, the BBC announced that ‘An Unearthly Child’ wouldn’t be released on BBC iPlayer alongside other ‘Doctor Who’ stories on November the 1st, 2023. 😦 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Listen’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Listen up, everyone! 🙂 (See what I did there? 😀 ) It’s time to check out the fourth episode in Series 8 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘Listen’ by Steven Moffat. This is a ‘Doctor Who’ episode where Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor becomes concerned about the monster that lurks under people’s beds. This episode also has Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald on a date with Samuel Anderson as Danny Pink, who works at Coal Hill School with her. ‘Listen’ uncovers more about the Doctor’s past and his fears. It also has Clara getting to know Danny and his past as well as his future when she and the Doctor meet Orson Pink (also played by Samuel Anderson). This ‘Doctor Who’ episode has received a lot of praise over the years from critics, audiences and fans. Do I think it’s one of the best ‘Doctor Who’ episodes ever made in the new TV series? Is this a ‘Doctor Who’ episode worthy of my time? Apparently, Kirah Shah (who was in ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ films as well as ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ 2005 film) plays the figure under the bed in the episode. ‘Listen’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Asylum of the Daleks’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And welcome to Series 7 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Here we are on Series 7 – Part 1, starring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. This is what I would like to label as the Pond Season in Series 7 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Series 7 – Part 1 depicts the five final adventures of the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory as a TARDIS trio. Will they be a satisfying final set of adventures featuring Eleven, Amy and Rory? We begin the season with ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ by Steven Moffat. This adventure features a variety of Daleks from both the classic TV series and the new TV series versions of ‘Doctor Who’. There’s also the introduction of Jenna-Louise Coleman as Oswin Oswald, whom the Doctor communicates via various intercoms throughout the adventure. Is ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ a satisfying Dalek adventure for me? Did I find it better than ‘Victory of the Daleks’ from Series 5? 😀 ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘A Christmas Carol’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the first ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special that features Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor. This is ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Steven Moffat, based of course on the classic 1843 novella by Charles Dickens of the same name. 😀 The Christmas Special was shown on BBC TV on Christmas Day in 2010. As well as Matt Smith, there’s Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, who are now married in the TV series. There’s Michael Gambon (who I’ve seen in the BBC’s 1999 TV production of ‘Wives & Daughters’ and is well-known for being in the ‘Harry Potter’ films) as the Scrooge-like Kazran Sardick. And there’s Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins who makes her acting debut as Abigail. There’s also Laurence Belcher as a young Kazran and Danny Horn as a grown-up Kazran. The special also has flying giant sharks in it. 😀 ‘A Christmas Carol’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
