Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #7

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the seventh and final story in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Today, it’s time for the 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, directed by Peter Moffat. This ‘Doctor Who’ story was shown in November 1983 and it features the first five Doctors (technically). There’s Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor, with Tom Baker (through ‘Shada’ footage) as the Fourth Doctor and William Hartnell (through ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ clip) as the First Doctor. There’s Janet Fielding as Tegan, Mark Strickson as Turlough, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Lalla Ward also appears (via ‘Shada’ footage) as Romana in the story. A Dalek is also in this story as well as the Cybermen, a Yeti, a Raston Warrior Robot and Anthony Ainley as the Master.

It’s been great to revisit ‘The Five Doctors’ on Blu-ray and there are three versions of the story on three discs in the Season 20 Blu-ray box set. I’ve enjoyed checking out the 1995 Special Edition version of the story, which is 100 minutes long compared to the original 1983 TV version, which is 90 minutes. There’s the 40th anniversary edition version of the story, which is a CGI effects version of the 1983 TV version of the story. There are plenty of special features to check out on the three discs of ‘The Five Doctors’ on Blu-ray. I’ve enjoyed the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item on the story, featuring Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Mark Strickson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Katy Manning and Sophie Aldred. I’ve also enjoyed ‘Look Who’s Driving’ with Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding where they’re on a road trip to the ‘TimeLash’ convention in Germany in October 2019. And there’s ‘Let’s Go Dutch’ where Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson visit Amsterdam in July 2022. ‘Messages From Space’ with Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding from the ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ 40th anniversary disc for ‘The Collection’ range of classic ‘Doctor Who’ Blu-ray box sets is also included.

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The Five Doctors’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story and a slightly updated review on the Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who – The Five Doctors’ by Terrance Dicks, read by Jon Culshaw with Nicholas Briggs as the voices of the Daleks and the Cybermen. For my review on ‘Messages From Space’ with Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding (which I’ve updated quite recently), check out my ‘Logopolis’ page. There are also brand-new reviews on ‘Look Who’s Driving’ with Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding and ‘Let’s Go Dutch’ with Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson. There’s also the alternative scene I’ve written for ‘The Five Doctors’ featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Adric. I’ve created two new reaction videos on certain characters and moments in the story for people to enjoy.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 20’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
