Season 20 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Peter Davison on Blu-ray #6

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re now on the sixth story of Season 20 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and, as it turns out, the season finale. Technically, anyway. Don’t worry. There’s still ‘The Five Doctors’ for us to check out next week. In the meantime, let’s check out this two-part story by Terence Dudley, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough. It’s Terence Dudley’s third ‘Doctor Who’ contribution as a writer and it’s the first and only one to be directed by Tony Virgo. The story also introduces Kamelion, a new robot companion for the Fifth Doctor, voiced by Gerald Flood, who also plays King John in this adventure. There’s also the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master in ‘The King’s Demons’. The story’s special guest stars include Frank Windsor, Isla Blair, Christopher Villiers and Michael J. Jackson. The story was filmed at Bodiam Castle, as it takes place in medieval England in the year 1215.

I’ve enjoyed revisiting ‘The King’s Demons’ on Blu-ray, especially with checking out the exclusive Blu-ray making-of documentary called ‘Back to Bodiam’. There’s also the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item on the story, which I’ve enjoyed, featuring Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Mark Strickson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Katy Manning and Sophie Aldred. I’ve enjoyed the ‘Kamelion – Metal Man’ featurette and the ‘Magna Carta’ featurette, which has been transferred from DVD to Blu-ray. There are also selections of numerous items on ‘The King’s Demons’ Blu-ray disc to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’ including promotional items on Season 20, content about the ‘Doctor Who Celebration at Longleat’ convention, which took place in April 1983 (and I’m sure was transferred from the Reeltime Pictures DVDs about the 1983 Longleat convention), and promotional items on the changes in ‘Doctor Who’, including Nicola Bryant’s announcement as Peri, Peter Davison’s departure from ‘Doctor Who’ and Colin Baker’s announcement as the Sixth Doctor.

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The King’s Demons’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story and a brand-new review on the Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who – The King’s Demons’ by Terence Dudley, read by Mark Strickson.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 20’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
