‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the two-part finale in Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s first season as the Tenth Doctor. This ‘Doctor Who’ story called ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ by Russell T. Davies features the last regular appearance of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, along with Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum; Noel Clarke as Mickey, Rose’s former boyfriend, and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. This ‘Doctor Who’ story is a pretty emotional season finale, and it also features the return of two popular ‘Doctor Who’ monsters battling each other, including the Cybermen and the Daleks. There’s also the introduction of the Torchwood Institute, led by Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman. This ‘Doctor Who’ adventure also features Freema Agyeman, who appears way before she played Martha Jones in Series 3, as Adeola Oshodi, Martha’s cousin. There’s also a brief appearance of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble at the story’s end. 😀 ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Love & Monsters’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For occasions like this, people would say “Be afraid! Be very afraid!” However, I’m going to say, “Be brave! Be very brave!” 😀 It’s time to check out what is argued to be one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episodes ever made in the new TV series called ‘Love & Monsters’ by Russell T. Davies. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose don’t appear much in this episode. The episode is led by Marc Warren (before he became a very good villain in Series 2 of ‘The Musketeers’) as Elton Pope, a man obsessed with the Doctor, who forms a group with other Doctor-obsessed seekers called L.I.N.D.A. This episode also features Peter Kay as Victor Kennedy a.k.a. the Abzorbaloff, a monster that was designed by ‘Blue Peter’ winner William Grantham. Do I agree with most opinions about this episode? Do I think this is the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episode ever made? Or do I have a soft spot for it? 😀 ‘Love & Monsters’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s another two-part adventure in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’. It’s time for ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ by Matt Jones. In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose visit a planet where there is a sanctuary base and the planet happens to be close to a stable black hole in space. We’re introduced to the spaghetti-like Ood ( 😀 ), voiced by Silas Carlson, and there’s the sanctuary base crew, including Shaun Parkes as Zachary, Danny Webb as Mr. Jefferson, Claire Rushbrook as Ida, Will Thorp as Toby, Ronny Jhutti as Danny and MyAnna Buring as Scooti. Will the Tenth Doctor, Rose and their new friends survive the threat of the demonic Beast, voiced by Gabriel Woolf (who played Sutekh in ‘Pyramids of Mars’) whilst the sanctuary base is under siege by possessed Ood? ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the first two-part story in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, and it’s the story that features the return of the Cybermen in the new TV series. This is ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ by Tom MacRae, and it’s a pretty compelling story where I got introduced to the Cybermen in 2006 and found them terrifying on my first watch. 😀 In the story, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose and Noel Clarke as Mickey end up in a parallel universe. There are parallel universe versions of Rose’s parents – Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. There’s also Roger Lloyd-Pack as John Lumic – the head of Cybus Industries and the creator of the new Cybermen on parallel Earth. 😮 ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. There, they visit a luxury hospital, run by the Sisters of Plenitude, where they discover many artificially-grown humans who have been infected with every disease. This episode also features the return of Zoë Wanamaker as Lady Cassandra as well as the Face of Boe. 🙂 Will the Doctor and Rose save the day with all the diseased humans running rampant in the hospital as well as having to deal with a lot of body-swapping caused by Lady Cassandra? 😀 ‘New Earth’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Boom Town’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out another one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Christopher Eccleston/Ninth Doctor era. This is the penultimate story in Series 1 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘Boom Town’ by Russell T. Davies. In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose and John Barrowman as Captain Jack visit Cardiff Bay in South Wales. They reunite with Noel Clarke as Mickey and enjoy spending some time in Cardiff Bay before they discover Annette Badland as Margaret Blaine, one of the Slitheen from ‘Aliens of London’/’World War Three’ has returned to cause trouble. Will our bunch of heroes stop Margaret the Slitheen? ‘Boom Town’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s the second two-part adventure in Series 1 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s also the first two-parter penned by Steven Moffat, and it’s one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Christopher Eccleston/Ninth Doctor era. Starring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, the TARDIS duo travel back in time to the year 1941 on Earth where London is at the height of the Blitz. They meet John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, who eventually joins them as a TARDIS traveller. The trio have to thwart the menace of the gas mask zombies who keep asking “Are you my Mummy?” Can they solve the mystery of what’s going on with these zombies? ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer.
