‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for another Steven Moffat-penned ‘Doctor Who’ episode in the new TV series called ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’. In this episode from Series 2, we have David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose joined by Noel Clarke as Mickey as a travelling companion in the TARDIS. They visit a spaceship in the 51st century, where the Doctor discovers time windows leading into 18th century Paris. They revolve around the life of Madame de Pompadour, played by Sophia Myles (who played Lady Penelope in the 2004 ‘Thunderbirds’ movie 😀 ). The Doctor must save Madame de Pompadour from the menace of the Clockwork Droids who have come to collect her. Will this episode end happily for both the Tenth Doctor and Madame de Pompadour? ‘The Girl In The Fireplace’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In today’s instalment of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon, we have a special new TV series ‘Doctor Who’ episode from Series 2 called ‘School Reunion’ by Toby Whithouse. In the episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose reunite with Noel Clarke as Mickey, as they investigate some strange goings-on at Deffry Vale School. The Doctor is also reunited with his best friend Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith, who makes a tremendous return to the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series before going on to star in her own spin-off TV series ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’. There’s also the return of K-9, voiced by John Leeson (Sarah Jane received the Mark III model of K-9 as a gift from the Doctor in the 1981 spin-off special ‘K-9 & Company’). This episode also introduces the monstrous Krillitanes, led by Anthony Head as the villainous Mr. Finch. ‘School Reunion’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

There, they visit a luxury hospital, run by the Sisters of Plenitude, where they discover many artificially-grown humans who have been infected with every disease. This episode also features the return of Zoë Wanamaker as Lady Cassandra as well as the Face of Boe. 🙂 Will the Doctor and Rose save the day with all the diseased humans running rampant in the hospital as well as having to deal with a lot of body-swapping caused by Lady Cassandra? 😀 ‘New Earth’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s the second two-part adventure in Series 1 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s also the first two-parter penned by Steven Moffat, and it’s one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Christopher Eccleston/Ninth Doctor era. Starring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, the TARDIS duo travel back in time to the year 1941 on Earth where London is at the height of the Blitz. They meet John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, who eventually joins them as a TARDIS traveller. The trio have to thwart the menace of the gas mask zombies who keep asking “Are you my Mummy?” Can they solve the mystery of what’s going on with these zombies? ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dalek’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re checking out a ‘Doctor Who’ episode that’s very special to me. This was the one that started it all for me. I was introduced to the TV series overall; Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose; and a Dalek for the first time through this episode. It’s time for ‘Dalek’ by Robert Shearman, and I consider it one of the best ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made in the new TV series. This episode also features the debut of Bruno Langley as Adam Mitchell, who becomes a short-time companion in the TV series. There’s also Corey Johnson as Henry van Statten and Anna-Louise Plowman as Diana Goddard. The Dalek is operated is Barnaby Edwards and the Dalek voice is by Nicholas Briggs. ‘Dalek’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

And it happens to be the first ‘Doctor Who’ TV episode by Mark Gatiss. 😀 Starring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose, this ‘Doctor Who’ episode takes us back to Earth’s past where we visit Cardiff in Victorian times. There are ghosts running amok in Cardiff on Christmas Eve in 1869. The Doctor and Rose must solve the ghost mystery with help from author Charles Dickens. Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Well, it took us a while, but my parents and I have finally reached the point where we can get onto watching Series 10 of ‘Call the Midwife’ on DVD. We’ve finished Series 9 on DVD and I’ve added my latest reviews on the season on my blog. I first saw Series 9 of ‘Call the Midwife’ back in early 2020. Amazing how I’m revisiting it a year later on DVD in 2021. Continue reading

TV Review – ‘Call the Midwife’, Series 9, Episode 3

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It was another enjoyable Sunday evening with ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Call the Midwife’ recently. The latest ‘Call the Midwife’ episode I’ve seen had some solid character drama again. It was also intriguing to explore medical practices being handled in the 1960s. That would be different compared to nowadays. Continue reading
