Season 25 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy on Blu-ray #2

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, it’s time to check out the second story in Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Happiness Patrol’, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. I’ve updated and extended my thoughts on the story, based on my revisit of ‘The Happiness Patrol’ via the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. ‘The Happiness Patrol’ is a three-part adventure by Graeme Curry, who sadly passed away in 2019. Like ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, there are two versions of the story on two discs in the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. There’s the original three-part story on Disc 3 and the three-part Special Edition version of ‘The Happiness Patrol’ on Disc 4. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Survival’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 26 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is also the last story of the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era as well as the last story of the original 1963-1989 TV series. It’s time for ‘Survival’, a three-part adventure by Rona Munro, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This story has the Doctor taking Ace home to Perivale in the year 1989 and it also features the return of Anthony Ainley as the Master. There are also the Cheetah-People with their leader Karra, played by Lisa Bowerman (who would go on to play Bernice Summerfield in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’). ‘Survival’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Happiness Patrol’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We’re now on the second story of Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘The Happiness Patrol’, a three-part story by Graeme Curry, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This is quite a politically-charged ‘Doctor Who’ adventure that has the Doctor and Ace visit a world where ‘unhappiness is a crime’. They have to thwart the efforts of Sheila Hancock as Helen A and there’s the monstrous Kandy-Man, that looks like he’s made out of liquorice allsorts and not jelly babies. 😀 Is this is a ‘Doctor Who’ story that wins me over? ‘The Happiness Patrol’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Dragonfire’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the fourth and final story of Season 24 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Bonnie Langford as Mel. Gosh, this season went by quickly, didn’t it? 😀 We’re also introduced to new companion Sophie Aldred as Ace, and there’s the departure of Bonnie Langford as Mel. This is ‘Dragonfire’, a three-part adventure by Ian Briggs. The story also features the return of Tony Selby as Sabalom Glitz, and it features guest stars like Edward Peel and Patricia Quinn. Many ‘Doctor Who’ fans rate this story as being the best one out of Season 24. Do I agree with that notion? ‘Dragonfire’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out Season 23 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Season 23 is a fourteen-part story called ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’, and it’s Colin Baker’s second and (sadly) final season as the Sixth Doctor. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ is divided into four segments, including ‘The Mysterious Planet’ by Robert Holmes, ‘Mindwarp’ by Philip Martin, ‘Terror of the Vervoids’ by Pip and Jane Baker and ‘The Ultimate Foe’ by Robert Holmes & Pip and Jane Baker. As well as Colin Baker, there’s Michael Jayston as the Valeyard and Lynda Bellingham as the Inquisitor. There’s also the Doctor’s companions Nicola Bryant as Peri and Bonnie Langford as Mel. ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and Britbox. Continue reading

We’ve come to the end of Season 24 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy! It’s time to talk about the fourth story of the season called ‘Dragonfire’! My updated review on the story is based on the Blu-ray box set release of Season 24. ‘Dragonfire’ features Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Bonnie Langford as Mel and it introduces Sophie Aldred as Ace, the new companion. Season 26 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And now we’ve come to the fourth and final story of Season 26 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray! This is one of my favourite stories with Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor and Sophie Aldred’s Ace. It’s time for ‘Survival’, the first ‘Doctor Who’ story by Rona Munro before she wrote ‘The Eaters of Light’ with Peter Capaldi. It was also sadly the last TV story to be featured in the classic series of ‘Doctor Who’. Continue reading

Season 23 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Colin Baker on Blu-ray

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

At last! I’ve updated my review on another classic ‘Doctor Who’ season on Blu-ray! That’s right! I’ve updated my review on Season 23 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Colin Baker! This is actually the 14-part epic story ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’. It contains four segments linked by the Doctor being put on trial. The season stars as Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, Nicola Bryant as Peri, Bonnie Langford as Mel, Michael Jayston as the Valeyard and Lynda Bellingham as the Inquisitor. Continue reading
