And welcome to Season 7 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! 🙂 It’s the first season of the 1970s, the first season to be shown in colour on TV, and it’s the first season to feature Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. We start off Season 7 by taking a look at the four-part adventure ‘Spearhead From Space’. This story also features the return of Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and U.N.I.T. Today, it’s time for us to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ story in the classic TV series to be written by Robert Holmes, except it’s mostly missing from the BBC Archive, with one episode still intact – ‘Episode Two’. It’s also considered one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made, starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe. ‘The Space Pirates’ can be checked out on audio CD or as a download via Audible. ‘Episode Two’ of the story can be seen in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection as well as on Britbox. Here’s another one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Patrick Troughton era! 🙂 This is ‘The Invasion’, an epic eight-part story where Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe face the Cybermen again. They also confront Kevin Stoney as the villainous Tobias Vaughn and they’re joined by Nicholas Courtney, who is promoted as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and is the leader of U.N.I.T., a new taskforce tackling alien invasions of Earth. Only two episodes of this six-part story have survived – ‘Episodes Three and Six’. The story stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie. The story also introduces Wendy Padbury as Zoe, a new companion, and it features the return of the Cybermen. ‘The Wheel In Space’ can be checked out on audio CD or as a download from Audible. The two surviving episodes of the story can be seen in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection.
