‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Love & Monsters’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For occasions like this, people would say “Be afraid! Be very afraid!” However, I’m going to say, “Be brave! Be very brave!” 😀 It’s time to check out what is argued to be one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episodes ever made in the new TV series called ‘Love & Monsters’ by Russell T. Davies. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose don’t appear much in this episode. The episode is led by Marc Warren (before he became a very good villain in Series 2 of ‘The Musketeers’) as Elton Pope, a man obsessed with the Doctor, who forms a group with other Doctor-obsessed seekers called L.I.N.D.A. This episode also features Peter Kay as Victor Kennedy a.k.a. the Abzorbaloff, a monster that was designed by ‘Blue Peter’ winner William Grantham. Do I agree with most opinions about this episode? Do I think this is the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episode ever made? Or do I have a soft spot for it? 😀 ‘Love & Monsters’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the first two-part story in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’, and it’s the story that features the return of the Cybermen in the new TV series. This is ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ by Tom MacRae, and it’s a pretty compelling story where I got introduced to the Cybermen in 2006 and found them terrifying on my first watch. 😀 In the story, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose and Noel Clarke as Mickey end up in a parallel universe. There are parallel universe versions of Rose’s parents – Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. There’s also Roger Lloyd-Pack as John Lumic – the head of Cybus Industries and the creator of the new Cybermen on parallel Earth. 😮 ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era continues, as we begin Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. The first episode of Series 2 is ‘New Earth’ by Russell T. Davies, where we return to five billion years in the future from ‘The End of the World’. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose visit New New York on the planet New Earth. There, they visit a luxury hospital, run by the Sisters of Plenitude, where they discover many artificially-grown humans who have been infected with every disease. This episode also features the return of Zoë Wanamaker as Lady Cassandra as well as the Face of Boe. 🙂 Will the Doctor and Rose save the day with all the diseased humans running rampant in the hospital as well as having to deal with a lot of body-swapping caused by Lady Cassandra? 😀 ‘New Earth’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Father’s Day’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for an emotional ‘Doctor Who’ episode in the new TV series called ‘Father’s Day’ by Paul Cornell. This was my first discovery of Paul Cornell’s writing in ‘Doctor Who’ before checking out ‘Circular Time’ and ‘Goth Opera’, both featuring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. In ‘Father’s Day’, Christopher Eccelston as the Ninth Doctor takes Billie Piper as Rose Tyler back in time to the day where her father, Shaun Dingwall as Pete Tyler, died in London in 1987. Rose inadvertently saves her dad’s life, causing the Reapers to be unleashed as they attempt to ‘sterilise the wound’. Does this incident damage the Doctor and Rose’s relationship? Will Pete Tyler learn the truth that Rose is his daughter. ‘Father’s Day’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
