To celebrate 10 years of ‘Bradley’s Basement’, I’ve decided to share my reviews on the ‘Doctor Who’ audio stories featured in ‘Tales From The TARDIS: Volume One’, which can be heard on Audible. Just in case you missed it today, I’ve added a brand-new review on the 1995 abridged audiobook reading of the Target novelization ‘Doctor Who and the Curse of Peladon’ by Brian Hayles, read by Jon Pertwee, who plays the Third Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. Season 9 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Jon Pertwee on Blu-ray #2

Let’s check out the second story in Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Curse of Peladon’, a four-part story by Brian Hayles, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. No Brigadier, Mike Yates, Benton and U.N.I.T. with them for this occasion, as the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the alien planet of Peladon, where its people are about to join the Galactic Federation. David Troughton guest stars as King Peladon whilst Geoffrey Toone guest stars as Hepesh, the High Priest of Peladon. There are the Ice Warriors who make an appearance in this ‘Doctor Who’ story as well as Galactic Federation delegates like Alpha Centauri and Arcturus. Continue reading

It’s Bank Holiday Monday in August in the UK (England, Wales and Northern Ireland to be precise) in 2024 today. Here’s my updated review on the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Celestial Toymaker’. This updated review is based on the latest in a line of mostly missing black-and-white ‘Doctor Who’ TV stories from the 1960s that have been animated on DVD and Blu-ray for today. The story stars William Hartnell as the First Doctor, Peter Purves as Steven Taylor and Jackie Lane as Dodo Chaplet. This story also features Michael Gough in the titular role of the Toymaker. It’s time for us to return to Peladon, as we take a look at the second of the ‘Peladon Tales’ in ‘Doctor Who’ called ‘The Monster of Peladon’. This is a six-part adventure, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. This story also features the Ice Warriors as well as Alpha Centauri. It’s time to check out the ‘Doctor Who’ story that features the debut of one of the Doctor’s deadliest enemies. This is ‘The Ice Warriors’, a six-part story featuring ‘Doctor Who’s version of the Martians from Mars called the Ice Warriors. The story also stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Deborah Watling as Victoria. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Smugglers’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! We’re also coming to the end of the First Doctor era, as we take a look at this four-part adventure called ‘The Smugglers’, starring William Hartnell in his penultimate appearance as the First Doctor. There’s also his new companions Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben. In this story, the Doctor, Polly and Ben tackle some smugglers in the 17th century, once the TARDIS lands on a wild and remote stretch of the Cornish coast. The four-part story is currently missing from the BBC Archives, but ‘The Smugglers’ and ‘The Underwater Menace’ will receive the animation treatment soon later in the year. In the meantime, ‘The Smugglers’ can be enjoyed on audio CD or as a download from Audible. Continue reading

In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, William Hartnell as the First Doctor ends up playing games with Michael Gough (who would go on to play Alfred in the four original ‘Batman’ films from 1989 to 1997) as the Celestial Toymaker. Plus, the Doctor is invisible for most of this adventure. 😐 Peter Purves as Steven and Jackie Lane as Dodo also end up having to play games with the Toymaker. You can listen to ‘The Celestial Toymaker’ soundtrack on audio CD or Audible, and you can watch the fourth surviving episode of this four-part story in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection.
