Three Time Lords with the Fifth Doctor and Peri

Nicola Bryant and Peter Davison in ‘Urban Myths’.
‘Urban Myths’ is a one part episode story by Paul Sutton. It’s a pretty amusing tale about three CIA Time Lords at this expensive restaurant where they debate about the death of the Doctor. I did wonder how this story was going to turn out, especially as it all seemed to be contained within a single episode.
I enjoyed listening to this bonus adventure on the ‘Exotron & Urban Myths’ CD. It’s pretty outlandish and unusual, but I enjoyed some of the in-jokes shared between the three Time Lords as they bickered to each other during their meal at the expensive restaurant. This could easily be a Douglas Adams-styled story.
Each of the Time Lords give their own accounts of what happened during an incident with the Fifth Doctor and Peri. There are three different versions of this incident, one or two that are pretty comical. There’s also this certain virus that affects the Time Lords’ memories on what happened in this incident.
The three Time Lords are as follows. There’s Douglas Hodge, who I’ve seen in the TV productions of ‘Middlemarch’ as well as ‘Mansfield Park’ with Billie Piper, as Commander Edge. There’s also Steve Wickham, who was in the ‘Doctor Who’ stories ‘Phantasmagoria’ and ‘The Caves of Androzani’, as Coordinator Harom and there’s Nicola Lloyd as Kettoo.
I like how the Doctor and Peri serve the three Time Lords meals during this one part story as they recount events of the incident. I enjoyed how the Doctor and Peri explained things to the Time Lords and enjoyed Peri getting outraged once the Doctor’s told she has to remain serving at the restaurant for a time.
The CD extras are as follows. On Disc 1, there’s a ‘coming soon’ trailer for ‘Valhalla’ with Sylvester McCoy. At the end of Disc 1, there’s Nick Briggs’ audio diary for the making of ‘Exotron & Urban Myths’.
At the end of Disc 2, there are behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew on the making of ‘Exotron & Urban Myths’. There are also trailers for other Fifth Doctor audio adventures by Big Finish. These audios include the anthology ‘Circular Time’, ‘Renaissance of the Daleks’, ‘The Gathering’ and ‘The Kingmaker’.
The ‘Exotron & Urban Myths’ CD release has been a pleasure to listen to. I enjoyed Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri and also feel this is the best audio CD with the two together. The two stories are pretty exciting and fast-paced to listen to but I’m sure you will enjoy this audio CD.
‘Urban Myths’ rating – 9/10
