Celebrating 62 Years of ‘Doctor Who’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Happy 62nd Anniversary, ‘Doctor Who’!

I wasn’t planning on sharing a specific blog post to celebrate ‘Doctor Who’s 62nd anniversary, as it was just going to be my convention report on ‘London Comic Con Winter 2025’ to celebrate the occasion. But then I thought, let’s do a proper blog post! 🙂

This blog post is more a reflection on how I feel about ‘Doctor Who’ nowadays and specifically how it’s impacted on me in doing my blog for the past 10 years. My interest in ‘Doctor Who’ began in 2005 when the new TV series began. It’s amazing how far I’ve come.

Although, to be honest, it was in 2006 where I took ‘Doctor Who’ more seriously compared to being interested in ‘Star Trek’ in 2004 and 2005. I enjoyed Series 1 starring Christopher Eccleston very much and I enjoyed Series 2 starring David Tennant very much.

When I finished Series 2 with David Tennant, I became interested in the classic TV series. I chose ‘Earthshock’ as the first story to check out the previous classic eras of ‘Doctor Who’. As well as Cybermen, I wanted to see what Peter Davison was like as the Doctor. 🙂

This was from seeing him as Tristan Farnon in the original ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ BBC TV series. If it wasn’t for me seeing ‘Earthshock’, I wouldn’t be where I am today in terms of my interest in ‘Doctor Who’, including going to conventions and doing my blog.

My favourite ‘Doctor Who’ people are of course Sarah Sutton, who plays Nyssa of Traken, and Peter Davison, who plays the Fifth Doctor. And it’s amazing to find over the past 10 years since doing my blog, I’ve met Sarah and Peter at conventions for almost every year.

Yes, 2020 was a year where I didn’t get to see them both at conventions, but at least I saw Sarah via a Zoom call session for ‘Spearhead: Day of the Time Lords’ in November 2020. But from 2015 to 2019 and from 2021 to 2025, I’ve met Sarah and Peter at conventions. 🙂

It’s fair to say I’ve got to know them well from meeting them at conventions and they certainly know me by name after all these years. I’ve become friends with them, especially Sarah, who I greatly enjoy having chats with when I see her at conventions. 🙂

I’ve never been so lucky to attend conventions where I get to meet my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stars every year. I don’t know if that’s happened often for every ‘Doctor Who’ fan, but I’m very pleased I’ve been lucky in meeting Sarah and Peter at conventions every year.

Also, without meeting Sarah and Peter, I wouldn’t have met Janet Fielding and Matthew Waterhouse. Nor would I have met Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. Nor Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred! Nor Paul McGann! Not even David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker!

I’m very lucky in that I’ve met Millie Gibson three times at conventions so far as well as Ncuti Gatwa. I’m thrilled I finally met Jenna Coleman at a convention recently. If I were tell my 2005 self that I would be meeting these ‘Doctor Who’ people, I would never have believed it.

As well as going to conventions, I’m pleased to have written many ‘Doctor Who’ stories via my blog, including my ‘Fifth Doctor’ series featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy. I’ve also written stories in many of the Divergent Wordsmiths anthologies over the years.

From my writing, I’ve been able to share stories to celebrate ‘Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary in 2023, including ‘Interdimensional Rescue’ and ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’. It’s only a matter of time before the 70th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’ comes along in 2033. 🙂

At this point in time, ‘Doctor Who’ is in a fragile state, particularly in concern to the TV series. But I’m looking forward to when ‘Doctor Who’ returns in its upcoming Christmas Special for 2026. I’m sure there’s many Big Finish audios to keep me occupied in the meantime.

And I’ve a couple of conventions to look forward to in 2026, including ‘Happy Who Year’ in Andover, January, where I’ll be seeing Sarah Sutton, Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and other guests, as well as seeing Millie Gibson at ‘London Comic Con Spring’ in February. 🙂

There are still more ‘Doctor Who’ stories by me featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy to look forward to, including ‘Swing Time’. I know I’ve been behind with sharing my latest ‘Doctor Who’ stories this year, but I’m hoping to catch up in sharing more for the New Year.

There are also in-depth reviews by me on TV stories to look forward to, including Series 14 and 15 with Ncuti Gatwa. There’s also me updating my reviews on the stories from Season 7 with Jon Pertwee and Season 13 with Tom Baker based on ‘The Collection’ Blu-ray box sets.

In December 2025, there’s the upcoming spin-off series ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’. Regardless on whether it’ll be good or not, I’m looking forward to enjoying some brand-new ‘Doctor Who’ content over the Christmas period, especially for four weeks. 🙂

And I’ll have plenty to keep me occupied when doing my next ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season, which I’ll be starting work on next week. It’s been hectic and busy for me this year, but I’m looking forward to checking out new Nyssa stories featuring Sarah Sutton. 🙂

As you can tell, ‘Doctor Who’ is something that keeps me excited whether it’d be checking out the TV series or the Big Finish audios as well as going to conventions and writing stories. There are plenty of Target novelizations for me to enjoy reading and listening to. 🙂

Some might not have warmed to ‘Doctor Who’ in recent years, particularly under the neo-Russell T. Davies era. But that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying ‘Doctor Who’ in all its incarnations. There are still plenty of things for me to enjoy throughout the various mediums.

Hopefully, someday, I’ll get to check out and do reviews on fan films like ‘Besieged’ and ‘Power of the Daleks Reimagined’. Regardless of what happens in the future, I’m very pleased to be celebrating ‘Doctor Who’ in its 62nd year, and I’m looking forward to more. 🙂

Stay tuned for more ‘Doctor Who’-related blog posts in relation to the 62nd anniversary celebrations. Whether they’ll be shared today or later in the week, there’s no doubt there won’t be a lack of ‘Doctor Who’-related items shared on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ in future.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
