Season 25 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy on Blu-ray #1

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s taken me a while, but I’m at last checking out and sharing my updated reviews on Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. This is the 25th anniversary season of ‘Doctor Who’, which was shown from October 1988 to January 1989. The Blu-ray box set came out in October 2024, but I had to check out Seasons 15 and 20 on Blu-ray first before getting onto sharing my updated thoughts on the four stories in Season 25. Let’s begin out look into Season 25 by checking out ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, a four-part story by Ben Aaronvitch, who makes his first contribution to the TV series.

There are two versions of this story on two discs in the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. There’s the original four-part story on Disc 1 and the four-part Special Edition version of ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ on Disc 2. I’ve revisited ‘Remembrance’ via its Special Edition version with an extended edit of the story and new CGI effects. I consider ‘Remembrance’ as one of the best stories in the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the definitive story of the Seventh Doctor era on TV. I’ve enjoyed the exclusive Blu-ray special features on ‘Remembrance’, including the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item featuring Sylvester McCoy, Karen Gledhill, Sophie Aldred, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury, Sarah Sutton, Bonnie Langford and Nicola Bryant. It was also interesting to check out the ‘Looking for Dursley’ documentary, presented by Toby Hadoke and featuring contributors like Sophie Aldred and ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T. Davies.

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story and a slightly updated review on the Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who – Remembrance of the Daleks’ by Ben Aaronovitch, read by Terry Molloy with Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks. In my updated review on ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, I’ve created a new video of me reacting to Allison Williams beating up a Dalek in the story.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 25’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂

Again the post-60th chances to revisit the older anniversary seasons for Doctor Who can spark a lot of nostalgia. Certainly in the case of the very season that enabled Sylvester McCoy to put his most vital mark on the 7th Doctor. The way he could chill you with his delivery for a very simple line like: “Why not?” when looking down the barrel of a gun is timeless. Thank you, Tim.

      Hi scifimike,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m in the process of finishing checking out ‘The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’ Target novelization/audiobook, but it’s been great to revisit Season 25 on Blu-ray recently and update my thoughts on the four stories, including ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’. Thanks for sharing ‘The Happiness Patrol’ video where the Doctor challenges the guy with the gun to ‘look’ him ‘in the eye’ and shoot him.

      Best wishes,

      Tim 🙂
