Season 9 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Jon Pertwee on Blu-ray #5

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And thus, we’ve come to the fifth and final story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. Let’s finish our look into the season by checking out the six-part story ‘The Time Monster’ by Robert Sloman and producer Barry Letts. As well as Jon Pertwee, the story stars Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier, Roger Delgado as the Master, Richard Franklin as Captain Mike Yates and John Levene as Sergeant Benton. The story also features guest stars like Wanda Moore as Dr. Ruth Ingram, Ian Collier as Stuart Hyde, George Cormack as King Dalios, Ingrid Pitt as Queen Galleia, Donald Eccles as Krasis, Aidan Murphy as Hippias, Susan Penhaligon as Lakis and David ‘Darth Vader’ Prowse as the Minotaur.

I’ve greatly enjoyed revisiting this six-part finale to Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is especially with checking out the brand-new ‘Time and Atlantis’ making-of documentary, presented by Toby Hadoke and featuring Katy Manning and John Levene. I’ve also enjoyed the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item on ‘The Time Monster’ with Katy Manning, director Michael E. Briant, Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sophie Aldred. It was also fun to check out the ‘On the Waterfront’ sketch with Jon Pertwee, which was broadcast in 1989. Whilst ‘The Time Monster’ is a ‘Doctor Who’ story that’s not highly regarded by fans, do I share that same opinion? Do I consider ‘The Time Monster’ to be better or worse than the previous season’s finale – ‘The Dæmons’?

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The Time Monster’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story as well as a brand-new review on the Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who – The Time Monster’ by Terrance Dicks, read by Jon Culshaw.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 9’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂

      Hi Su,

I’m afraid I’m not doing Season 20 next. I’ll be doing Season 15 next, then Season 20 and hopefully Season 25 once it becomes available. The updated reviews won’t be available until sometime in early 2025.

Thanks for checking out my updated reviews. Glad you enjoy them.

      Best wishes,

      Tim 🙂
