Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Here we are on the fourth story of Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for us to check out ‘The Mutants’, a six-part story by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. In this adventure, the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the planet Solo during the Earth Empire period of the 30th century. The Doctor has to deliver a spherical pod to someone that could provide the key to Solos’ future. The story features guest stars like Paul Whitsun-Jones as the villainous Marshal and Garrick Hagon as Ky, a Solonian who is against the Earth Empire’s (or ‘Overlords’ as the Solonians call them) presence on Solos.
This is considered an underrated story in the Jon Pertwee/Third Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’. I’ve enjoyed revisiting ‘The Mutants’ for the fifth time (the first three times were on DVD and the fourth and fifth times have been on Blu-ray). Once again, I’ve revisited the story along with the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item’ on ‘The Mutants’, featuring Katy Manning, director Michael E. Briant, Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sophie Aldred. I’ve also enjoyed revisiting the ‘Mutt Mad’ making-of documentary as well as the ‘Race Against Time’ diversity documentary that was filmed in 2010 and is narrated by Noel Clarke.
Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The Mutants’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story.
You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 9’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.
Enjoy!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
