Let’s check out the second story in Season 9 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Curse of Peladon’, a four-part story by Brian Hayles, starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and Katy Manning as Jo Grant. No Brigadier, Mike Yates, Benton and U.N.I.T. with them for this occasion, as the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo to the alien planet of Peladon, where its people are about to join the Galactic Federation. David Troughton guest stars as King Peladon whilst Geoffrey Toone guest stars as Hepesh, the High Priest of Peladon. There are the Ice Warriors who make an appearance in this ‘Doctor Who’ story as well as Galactic Federation delegates like Alpha Centauri and Arcturus.

It’s been great to revisit this ‘Doctor Who’ story in the Season 9 Blu-ray box set, especially with some of the special features transferred from its 2010 DVD release in the ‘Peladon Tales’ DVD box set. I’ve greatly enjoyed checking out the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item of ‘The Curse of Peladon’, featuring Katy Manning, director Michael E. Briant, Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sophie Aldred. It was enjoyably entertaining and funny to see the reactions to Alpha Centauri as well as the Ice Warriors in the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item. Sarah Sutton and Sophie Aldred were particularly good in doing funny impersonations of Alpha Centauri. 😀
