Two of the worst episodes in the shows history, awful writing & poor pantomime acting all around.
I didn’t feel like I was watching Doctor Who it was so bad with silly snot monsters & Maestro who makes Graham Crowdens Soldeed look like Lawrence Oliver.
Heartbreaking to see a show that’s been a huge part of my life reduced to this rubbish.
I’m calling it now Tim, Doctor Who on TV is on the way out.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the first two episodes on Series 14. I wouldn’t judge on the season just yet as it’s only just started and we have six episodes left.
I’m holding back on sharing any in-depth thoughts on Series 14 until later in the year, as the videos I’m sharing are spoiler-free reactions and I’d like to wait until the season is over to share my in-depth thoughts on the episodes. Hopefully, Series 14 will get better as we progress in the weeks of May and June.
I will say this, I like Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson so far.
Even with the extravaganza that Russell T. Davies can revitalize on returning to Dr. Who, there can be the dilemma of whether it’s for good or bad, and certainly for our long-enduring sci-fi franchises like Dr. Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files and Twilight Zone. It’s chiefly why I tend to prefer nowadays all the more short-lived and even obscure sci-fi shows that can naturally be spared such a dilemma. As for the first two new episodes of Dr. Who, I enjoyed them enough for the undiminishing courage for the Whoniverse to press on despite its most recent troubles.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad you enjoyed the first two episodes of Series 14 of ‘Doctor Who’ enough. Hopefully when I’ve processed my thoughts on the entire season, I’ll get to share what my in-depth thoughts on the episodes themselves.
So did I. I had my concerns after how poorly much of the last decade for Dr. Who was handled. But fans who really admire how “out there” the modern Whoniverse can be, some needs will certainly be satisfied.
I think we’ve hit a veritable gold mine with the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday.
Watching, I was trying to pin down the dynamic between Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson. What was it reminiscent of? The Third Doctor and Jo? The Fourth Doctor and Sarah? The Sixth Doctor and Mel? Some are closer than others, but none feel like quite the right fit.
It’s their enthusiasm. The sheer bristling energy that they bring to their roles, together as a pair, isn’t like anything I’ve really seen in televised Doctor Who. Not precisely. So, why does it feel familiar, I wonder…?
Because, I realised, I got the same feeling from watching Tales of the TARDIS. When Doctor Who alumni returned to their roles, years after the fact. It’s as rich and true as Peter Purves, Maureen O’Brien, Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Katy Manning, Daniel Antony… All of them stepping back into that space. Knowing those roles, knowing what they meant.
Except, that feeling isn’t separated by decades of experience. For Gatwa and Gibson, it’s happening with them right now.
How do I feel about the episodes? Well.. I have multifaceted thoughts, about what succeeded and what was maybe a missed opportunity or two. How do I feel about the Doctor and his companion, though? Reassured. Unambiguously so.
I can completely forget I’m watching Ncuti Gatwa playing the Doctor and simply see — the Doctor. I like that a lot.
