Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out the second of the 2008-2010 Specials of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. This is also the first Easter Special ever made in the new TV series. It also serves as the 200th story in ‘Doctor Who’, featuring a London double-decker bus affectionately called the Mighty 200 as well as featuring Tritovores and alien stingrays. 😀 It’s time for ‘Planet of the Dead’ by Russell T. Davies and Gareth Roberts, which was shown on BBC TV on Easter Saturday (11th of April 2009). The special introduces Michelle Ryan as Lady Christina de Souza, who would go on to appear in her own spin-off audio series by Big Finish. There’s also the return of Noma Dumezweni as U.N.I.T. Captain Erisa Magambo and comedian Lee Evans as U.N.I.T. scientific advisor Malcolm Taylor. There’s Adam James as D.I. McMillan, Victoria Alcock as Angela Whitaker, David Ames as Nathan, Daniel Kaluuya as Barclay, Ellen Thomas as Carmen and Reginald Tsiboe as Lou. ‘Planet of the Dead’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Turn Left’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Bank Holiday Monday in August in the UK in 2023 today. Here we are on the penultimate story of Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘Turn Left’ by Russell T. Davies. In this ‘Doctor Who’ episode, it’s the turn of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble to be without David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, as she finds herself living a different life in a parallel universe where she never met the Doctor, forced on her by Chipo Chung as the Fortune Teller. It’s where we have the return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler (Yes, I know she appeared in ‘Partners In Crime’, ‘The Poison Sky’ and ‘Midnight’, but those were brief cameos). This episode also features Jacqueline King as Sylvia, Donna’s mum and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott, Donna’s granddad. There’s also the introduction of Noma Dumezweni as U.N.I.T. Captain Magambo. ‘Turn Left’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Fires of Pompeii’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come to one of the best pseudo-historical adventures in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series in Series 4, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna. It’s time for ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ by James Moran. This is an episode where the Doctor and Donna travel back in time to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii in 79 AD. This episode features guest stars who would become prominent in ‘Doctor Who’s history like Peter Capaldi (who would go on to play the Twelfth Doctor) as Caecilius and Karen Gillan (who would go on to play Amy Pond) as a Soothsayer. There’s also Tracey Childs (who has played Elizabeth Klein in the Big Finish audios with Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor) as Metella, Caecilius’ wife, and there’s Phil Davis (who I’ve seen in the BBC’s 2005 TV production of ‘Bleak House’) as Lucius. ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Partners In Crime’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is, in my opinion, the best season featured in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and is my favourite. It features the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who previously appeared in ‘The Runaway Bride’ and she becomes the Tenth Doctor’s travelling companion in this season. We start off Series 4 with the episode ‘Partners In Crime’ by Russell T. Davies where the Tenth Doctor and Donna investigate Adipose Industries before they reunite with each other. The episode features the return of Jacqueline King as Sylvia, Donna’s mum, and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott, who previously appeared in ‘Voyage of the Damned’ and happens to be Donna’s granddad. There’s also special guest star Sarah Lancashire as Miss Foster. ‘Partners In Crime’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

It’s time to check out the 2007 ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. This is ‘Voyage of the Damned’ by Russell T. Davies, where the Doctor visits the starship Titanic. He meets Kylie Minogue as Astrid Peth, a waitress serving aboard the Titanic who might become the next ‘Doctor Who’ companion. This Christmas Special features a plethora of special guest stars like Geoffrey Palmer as Captain Hardaker, Russell Tovey as Midshipman Alonso Frame, Andrew Havill as the Chief Stewart, Gray O’Brien as Rickston Slade, Debbie Chazen as Foon Van Hoff, Clive Rowe as Morvin Van Hoff, Clive Swift as Mr. Copper, Jimmy Vee as Bannakaffalatta and there’s the debut of Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the season finale of Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! 🙂 This is a three-part story by Russell T. Davies called ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones are joined by John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, as the TARDIS takes them to the end of the universe, which is 100 trillion years in the future. There they meet Derek Jacobi as Professor Yana, who turns out to be the Master. Soon, the Master regenerates into John Simm and he becomes Prime Minister of Great Britain in Martha’s time. Can the Doctor, Martha and Jack thwart the evil machinations of the Master before the planet Earth is taken over completely. ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s check out another two-part story in Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. It’s time for ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’ by Paul Cornell, based on his original 1995 book called ‘Human Nature’, which featured the Seventh Doctor. 😀 In the TV version of the ‘Doctor Who’ story, the Tenth Doctor decides to become human and calls himself ‘John Smith’ to hide from the alien Family of Blood whilst being a schoolteacher at Farringham School for Boys in England on Earth in the year 1913. Martha acts as a maid whilst at the school. This ‘Doctor Who’ story also features Jessica Hynes as Joan Redfern, John Smith’s love interest, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Tim Latimer. And there are scarecrows in this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure. 😀 ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Lazarus Experiment’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, it’s time to check out the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ by Stephen Greenhorn in Series 3 of the new TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. The inspiration for this episode was to make it like a Marvel Comics superhero monster-type of movie. This is especially the case as Mark Gatiss guest stars as Professor Lazarus, a scientist who seeks the fountain of youth before he becomes a terrifying monster in the episode. There’s also the return of Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Tish, Martha’s sister; Reggie Yates as Leo, Martha’s brother; and Adjoa Andoh as Francine, Martha’s mum, who becomes suspicious of her daughter’s recent whereabouts. ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Gridlock’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s the third episode of Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. We’re returning to New New York on New Earth (last seen in the Series 2 episode ‘New Earth’). It’s time for ‘Gridlock’ by Russell T. Davies, the third of what is arguably ‘the New Earth’ or ‘the Face of Boe’ trilogy of new series ‘Doctor Who’ episodes (I prefer calling it ‘The Face of Boe’ trilogy 😀 ). In this episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones visit New New York to find its Motorway in a perpetual gridlock. Can our heroes solve the mystery as to how New New York ended up in this state? This ‘Doctor Who’ episode also features the return of the crab-like Macra from ‘The Macra Terror’. There are guest stars like Travis Oliver (who now plays Chris Cwej in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’) and there’s Ardal O’Hanlon (well-known for being in ‘Father Ted’ 😀 ). ‘Gridlock’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Runaway Bride’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special in the new TV series that was shown on BBC TV in December 2006. This is ‘The Runaway Bride’ by Russell T. Davies, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. In this Christmas Special, the Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who mysteriously appears in the TARDIS and is wearing a wedding dress. 😀 The Doctor must help Donna solve the mystery of why she ended up in the TARDIS and not at her wedding. This leads them to a mysterious and abandoned Torchwood base under the river Thames in London, where they find themselves up against the spider-like Empress of Racnoss, played by Sarah Parish. The special also features Don Gilét as Lance Bennett, Donna’s fiancé; Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Donna’s mum; and the late Howard Attfield as Geoff Noble, Donna’s dad. The Robot Santas from ‘The Christmas Invasion’ are also in this special. ‘The Runaway Bride’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
