‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Lazarus Experiment’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, it’s time to check out the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ by Stephen Greenhorn in Series 3 of the new TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. The inspiration for this episode was to make it like a Marvel Comics superhero monster-type of movie. This is especially the case as Mark Gatiss guest stars as Professor Lazarus, a scientist who seeks the fountain of youth before he becomes a terrifying monster in the episode. There’s also the return of Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Tish, Martha’s sister; Reggie Yates as Leo, Martha’s brother; and Adjoa Andoh as Francine, Martha’s mum, who becomes suspicious of her daughter’s recent whereabouts. ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Gridlock’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s the third episode of Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. We’re returning to New New York on New Earth (last seen in the Series 2 episode ‘New Earth’). It’s time for ‘Gridlock’ by Russell T. Davies, the third of what is arguably ‘the New Earth’ or ‘the Face of Boe’ trilogy of new series ‘Doctor Who’ episodes (I prefer calling it ‘The Face of Boe’ trilogy 😀 ). In this episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones visit New New York to find its Motorway in a perpetual gridlock. Can our heroes solve the mystery as to how New New York ended up in this state? This ‘Doctor Who’ episode also features the return of the crab-like Macra from ‘The Macra Terror’. There are guest stars like Travis Oliver (who now plays Chris Cwej in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’) and there’s Ardal O’Hanlon (well-known for being in ‘Father Ted’ 😀 ). ‘Gridlock’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, we’re checking out the second episode of Series 3 – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor – in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series called ‘The Shakespeare Code’ by Gareth Roberts. In this ‘Doctor Who’ episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones travel back in time to the Globe Theatre in London in the year 1599 where they meet Dean Lennox Kelly as William Shakespeare (Thankfully, a more heroic version of Shakespeare compared to the one depicted in the Big Finish audio ‘The Kingmaker’ 😀 ). Whilst meeting the playwright, the Doctor and Martha uncover the mystery about Shakespeare’s lost play ‘Love’s Labour’s Won’ as well as confronting the three witch-like Carrionites. There are guest stars like Christina Cole and Andree Bernard in the episode. ‘The Shakespeare Code’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

And welcome to Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. In this season, David Tennant is joined by Freema Agyeman (who previously played Adeola Oshodi in ‘Army of Ghosts’ – Martha’s cousin in fact) as Martha Jones, a medical doctor-in-training. In ‘Smith and Jones’ by Russell T. Davies, Martha meets the Tenth Doctor at a hospital, which gets plucked out from Earth and is put on the Moon. There, the hospital is visited by a platoon of rhino-like aliens called the Judoon. The Doctor and Martha must find out why the Judoon have taken the hospital out from Earth before they can put it back where it was. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Runaway Bride’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special in the new TV series that was shown on BBC TV in December 2006. This is ‘The Runaway Bride’ by Russell T. Davies, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. In this Christmas Special, the Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who mysteriously appears in the TARDIS and is wearing a wedding dress. 😀 The Doctor must help Donna solve the mystery of why she ended up in the TARDIS and not at her wedding. This leads them to a mysterious and abandoned Torchwood base under the river Thames in London, where they find themselves up against the spider-like Empress of Racnoss, played by Sarah Parish. The special also features Don Gilét as Lance Bennett, Donna’s fiancé; Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Donna’s mum; and the late Howard Attfield as Geoff Noble, Donna’s dad. The Robot Santas from ‘The Christmas Invasion’ are also in this special. ‘The Runaway Bride’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the two-part finale in Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s first season as the Tenth Doctor. This ‘Doctor Who’ story called ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ by Russell T. Davies features the last regular appearance of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, along with Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum; Noel Clarke as Mickey, Rose’s former boyfriend, and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. This ‘Doctor Who’ story is a pretty emotional season finale, and it also features the return of two popular ‘Doctor Who’ monsters battling each other, including the Cybermen and the Daleks. There’s also the introduction of the Torchwood Institute, led by Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman. This ‘Doctor Who’ adventure also features Freema Agyeman, who appears way before she played Martha Jones in Series 3, as Adeola Oshodi, Martha’s cousin. There’s also a brief appearance of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble at the story’s end. 😀 ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Fear Her’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the penultimate story in Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose. This is ‘Fear Her’ by Matthew Graham. In the episode, the Tenth Doctor and Rose visit Dame Kelly Holmes Close in London in the year 2012. The 2012 Olympics are about to take place. Goodness me! The 2012 Olympics. That feels such a lifetime ago. 😀 But their trip to the Olympics is disrupted when they discover that children have gone missing in the local area. It all ties to a little girl named Chloe, who has the ability to draw people and trap them in her drawings. Will the Doctor and Rose be able to solve the mystery as to what’s going on with these disappearances and how the little girl has the ability to trap people in her drawings? ‘Fear Her’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Love & Monsters’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For occasions like this, people would say “Be afraid! Be very afraid!” However, I’m going to say, “Be brave! Be very brave!” 😀 It’s time to check out what is argued to be one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episodes ever made in the new TV series called ‘Love & Monsters’ by Russell T. Davies. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose don’t appear much in this episode. The episode is led by Marc Warren (before he became a very good villain in Series 2 of ‘The Musketeers’) as Elton Pope, a man obsessed with the Doctor, who forms a group with other Doctor-obsessed seekers called L.I.N.D.A. This episode also features Peter Kay as Victor Kennedy a.k.a. the Abzorbaloff, a monster that was designed by ‘Blue Peter’ winner William Grantham. Do I agree with most opinions about this episode? Do I think this is the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episode ever made? Or do I have a soft spot for it? 😀 ‘Love & Monsters’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

In this ‘Doctor Who’ adventure, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose visit a planet where there is a sanctuary base and the planet happens to be close to a stable black hole in space. We’re introduced to the spaghetti-like Ood ( 😀 ), voiced by Silas Carlson, and there’s the sanctuary base crew, including Shaun Parkes as Zachary, Danny Webb as Mr. Jefferson, Claire Rushbrook as Ida, Will Thorp as Toby, Ronny Jhutti as Danny and MyAnna Buring as Scooti. Will the Tenth Doctor, Rose and their new friends survive the threat of the demonic Beast, voiced by Gabriel Woolf (who played Sutekh in ‘Pyramids of Mars’) whilst the sanctuary base is under siege by possessed Ood? ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer.
