‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Night Terrors’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

After ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’, it’s time for us to check out something that’s a little straightforward. 😀 Today’s ‘Doctor Who’ episode in the 60th Anniversary Marathon is called ‘Night Terrors’ (No, not the ‘Star Trek: TNG’ episode 😀 ) by Mark Gatiss. In the episode, Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams make a ‘house call’ at a council estate in Croydon. In one of the flats, there’s an eight-year-old boy named George, who’s terrified of almost everything. He especially dreads the cupboard in his bedroom. This episode features special guest star Daniel Mays as Alex, who is George’s father. Daniel Mays would later go on to play Private Walker in the 2016 ‘Dad’s Army’ film. The episode also has Amy and Rory being trapped in a doll house with some terrifying life-size peg dolls. ‘Night Terrors’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Doctor’s Wife’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for the first ‘Doctor Who’ episode to be penned by Neil Gaiman, who is the creator of the comic book series called ‘The Sandman’ and the writer of novels such as ‘Good Omens’ and ‘Stardust’. Today’s ‘Doctor Who’ episode is called ‘The Doctor’s Wife’, featuring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. In the episode, our heroes receive a distress call and Matt Smith’s Doctor soon meets Suranne Jones as Idris, who happens to be the TARDIS in woman form. The story’s monster is called House and he’s voiced by Michael Sheen, who went on to be in the ‘Good Omens’ TV series with David Tennant. There’s an Ood with green eyes in the episode called Nephew, and there’s the return of the Russell T. Davies-era TARDIS console as well as the introduction of a new TARDIS console designed by ‘Blue Peter’ winner Susannah Leah. ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Lazarus Experiment’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today, it’s time to check out the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ by Stephen Greenhorn in Series 3 of the new TV series, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. The inspiration for this episode was to make it like a Marvel Comics superhero monster-type of movie. This is especially the case as Mark Gatiss guest stars as Professor Lazarus, a scientist who seeks the fountain of youth before he becomes a terrifying monster in the episode. There’s also the return of Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Tish, Martha’s sister; Reggie Yates as Leo, Martha’s brother; and Adjoa Andoh as Francine, Martha’s mum, who becomes suspicious of her daughter’s recent whereabouts. ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Gridlock’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s the third episode of Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. We’re returning to New New York on New Earth (last seen in the Series 2 episode ‘New Earth’). It’s time for ‘Gridlock’ by Russell T. Davies, the third of what is arguably ‘the New Earth’ or ‘the Face of Boe’ trilogy of new series ‘Doctor Who’ episodes (I prefer calling it ‘The Face of Boe’ trilogy 😀 ). In this episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones visit New New York to find its Motorway in a perpetual gridlock. Can our heroes solve the mystery as to how New New York ended up in this state? This ‘Doctor Who’ episode also features the return of the crab-like Macra from ‘The Macra Terror’. There are guest stars like Travis Oliver (who now plays Chris Cwej in the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’) and there’s Ardal O’Hanlon (well-known for being in ‘Father Ted’ 😀 ). ‘Gridlock’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. SPOILERS ALERT!!!

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s funny how I seem to keep coming back to ‘The Three Musketeers’ by Alexandra Dumas every year. In 2021, I reviewed the 1993 film and in 2022, I reviewed the 2011 film. Both films I saw on Disney+. I’ve just finished checking out the BBC TV series ‘The Musketeers’, based on the 1844 novel. Continue reading

In this ‘Doctor Who’ episode, Matt Smith’s Doctor meets the TARDIS in person…and she’s a woman called Idris. Yeah!
