‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Next Doctor’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the last set of ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, which are the 2008 to 2010 Specials in the new TV series. Today, we’re starting off on ‘The Next Doctor’, the 2008 Christmas Special by Russell T. Davies. This is a ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special that features the return of the Cybermen, who were last seen in ‘Doomsday’, and the story is set in Victorian London in the year 1851. There’s the introduction of David Morrisey (I’ve seen him in 1998’s BBC TV production of ‘Our Mutual Friend’) who claims to be a new incarnation of the Doctor. There are also special guest stars like Dervla Kirwan as the villainous Miss Hartigan and Velile Tshabalala as Rosita, the David Morrisey Doctor’s companion. Will the Tenth Doctor uncover the mystery about David Morrisey’s Doctor and how the Cybermen are involved? ‘The Next Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

In today’s ‘Doctor Who’ episode for the 60th Anniversary Marathon, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones on an adventure in ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’ by Stephen Greenhorn. On the planet Messaline in the far future, there’s a war fought between the humans and the alien Hath. There’s also the birth of the Doctor’s daughter – Georgia Moffett as Jenny. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Planet of the Ood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s another one of my favourite episodes in Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out ‘Planet of the Ood’ by Keith Temple, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. This episode of course features the return of the Ood, voiced by Silas Carson, who appeared in ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ in Series 2. In ‘Planet of the Ood’, the Doctor and Donna must uncover the mystery that’s happening on the Ood-Sphere in the 42nd century, since ‘the circle must be broken’ for the Ood to sing. There are special guest stars like Tim McInnerny (who’s been in ‘Blackadder’, the ‘101 Dalmatians’ live-action films and ‘Johnny English Reborn’ as well as the ‘Doctor Who’ audio adaptation of ‘The Well-Mannered War’) as Mr. Halpen in the episode. There’s also Ayesha Dharker as Solana Mercurio and Adrian Rawlins as Dr. Ryder. ‘Planet of the Ood’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And welcome to Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s second season as the Tenth Doctor. In this season, David Tennant is joined by Freema Agyeman (who previously played Adeola Oshodi in ‘Army of Ghosts’ – Martha’s cousin in fact) as Martha Jones, a medical doctor-in-training. In ‘Smith and Jones’ by Russell T. Davies, Martha meets the Tenth Doctor at a hospital, which gets plucked out from Earth and is put on the Moon. There, the hospital is visited by a platoon of rhino-like aliens called the Judoon. The Doctor and Martha must find out why the Judoon have taken the hospital out from Earth before they can put it back where it was. This episode also features Anne Reid as Florence Finnegan and Roy Marsden as Mr. Stoker. There’s also Martha’s family, including Adjoa Andoh as Francine, Martha’s mum; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Tish, Martha’s sister; Reggie Yates as Leo, Martha’s brother; and Trevor Laird as Clive, Martha’s dad. ‘Smith and Jones’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. In this Christmas Special, the Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who mysteriously appears in the TARDIS and is wearing a wedding dress. 😀 The Doctor must help Donna solve the mystery of why she ended up in the TARDIS and not at her wedding. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the two-part finale in Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series – David Tennant’s first season as the Tenth Doctor. This ‘Doctor Who’ story called ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ by Russell T. Davies features the last regular appearance of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, along with Camille Coduri as Jackie, Rose’s mum; Noel Clarke as Mickey, Rose’s former boyfriend, and Shaun Dingwall as Pete, Rose’s dad. This ‘Doctor Who’ story is a pretty emotional season finale, and it also features the return of two popular ‘Doctor Who’ monsters battling each other, including the Cybermen and the Daleks. There’s also the introduction of the Torchwood Institute, led by Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman. This ‘Doctor Who’ adventure also features Freema Agyeman, who appears way before she played Martha Jones in Series 3, as Adeola Oshodi, Martha’s cousin. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Love & Monsters’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For occasions like this, people would say “Be afraid! Be very afraid!” However, I’m going to say, “Be brave! Be very brave!” 😀 It’s time to check out what is argued to be one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episodes ever made in the new TV series called ‘Love & Monsters’ by Russell T. Davies. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose don’t appear much in this episode. The episode is led by Marc Warren (before he became a very good villain in Series 2 of ‘The Musketeers’) as Elton Pope, a man obsessed with the Doctor, who forms a group with other Doctor-obsessed seekers called L.I.N.D.A. This episode also features Peter Kay as Victor Kennedy a.k.a. the Abzorbaloff, a monster that was designed by ‘Blue Peter’ winner William Grantham. Do I agree with most opinions about this episode? Do I think this is the worst ‘Doctor Who’ episode ever made? Or do I have a soft spot for it? 😀 ‘Love & Monsters’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading
