‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Turn Left’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Bank Holiday Monday in August in the UK in 2023 today. Here we are on the penultimate story of Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time for ‘Turn Left’ by Russell T. Davies. In this ‘Doctor Who’ episode, it’s the turn of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble to be without David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, as she finds herself living a different life in a parallel universe where she never met the Doctor, forced on her by Chipo Chung as the Fortune Teller. It’s where we have the return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler (Yes, I know she appeared in ‘Partners In Crime’, ‘The Poison Sky’ and ‘Midnight’, but those were brief cameos). This episode also features Jacqueline King as Sylvia, Donna’s mum and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott, Donna’s granddad. There’s also the introduction of Noma Dumezweni as U.N.I.T. Captain Magambo. ‘Turn Left’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Midnight’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come now to what is considered a fan-favourite in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Even Janet Fielding who plays Tegan in the classic TV series likes this episode. This is ‘Midnight’, a ‘Doctor Who’ episode by Russell T. Davies. In the episode, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor is without Catherine Tate as Donna on the planet Midnight, as he takes a shuttle tour to visit a waterfall made of sapphires. There are special guest stars like Lesley Sharp as Sky Silvestry, Rakie Ayola as the Hostess, David Troughton (one of Patrick Troughton’s sons) as Professor Hobbes, Ayesha Antoine as Dee Dee Blasco, Lindsey Coulson as Val Cane, Daniel Ryan as Biff Cane, and Colin Morgan (well-known for playing Merlin in ‘Merlin’) as Jethro Cane. Whilst people rate this ‘Doctor Who’ episode very highly, do I share the same opinion? ‘Midnight’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Silence in the Library’/’Forest of the Dead’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for us to check out the two-part ‘Doctor Who’ adventure ‘Silence in the Library’/’Forest of the Dead’ by Steven Moffat. In this two-part story, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna visit a planet-sized library called the Library. 😀 There, they meet Alex Kingston as River Song, who makes her first ‘Doctor Who’ appearance in the new TV series. River happens to know the Doctor whereas the Doctor doesn’t know her yet. She’s part of a team of archaeologists, including Steve Pemberton as Strackman Lux, Talulah Riley as Miss Evangelista, Jessika Williams as Anita, O. T. Fagbenle as Other Dave and Harry Peacock as Proper Dave. The Doctor, Donna, River and the others have to survive, since the shadows in the Library contain the vicious alien Vashta Nerada. ‘Silence in the Library’/’Forest of the Dead’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

My absolute favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story is ‘Black Orchid’. That was the classic TV series’ way of doing a period murder mystery in the 1920s. Today, we’re looking at ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’ by Gareth Roberts, the new TV series’ way of doing a period murder mystery in the 1920s. David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble meet Fenella Woolgar (who would go on to be in ‘Call the Midwife’) as Agatha Christie at a country house. The episode also features special guest stars like Felicity Kendal (who I’ve seen in ‘The Good Life’) as Lady Eddison, Christopher Benjamin (well-known for playing Henry Gordon Jago in ‘Doctor Who’) as Colonel Hugh, Felicity Jones (who’s been in 2007’s ‘Northanger Abbey’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and ‘Rogue One’) as Robina Redmond, and Tom Goodman-Hill as Reverend Golightly. Do I think that ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’ is better than ‘Black Orchid’ or vice versa? ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In today’s ‘Doctor Who’ episode for the 60th Anniversary Marathon, David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones on an adventure in ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’ by Stephen Greenhorn. On the planet Messaline in the far future, there’s a war fought between the humans and the alien Hath. There’s also the birth of the Doctor’s daughter – Georgia Moffett as Jenny. Georgia Moffett happens to be the real-life daughter of Peter Davison, who plays the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. She’s now Georgia Tennant, as she’s married to David Tennant, who plays the Tenth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Sontaran Stratagem’/’The Poison Sky’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to check out the first two-part story in Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Sontaran Stratagem’/’The Poison Sky’ by Helen Raynor, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna. This two-parter also features the return of Freema Agyeman as Martha, who now works for U.N.I.T. There’s also the return of the potato-headed Sontarans in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, including Christopher Ryan as General Staal and Dan Starkey as Commander Skorr. This story also features Jacqueline King as Sylvia, Donna’s mum and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred, Donna’s granddad. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Planet of the Ood’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here’s another one of my favourite episodes in Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. It’s time to check out ‘Planet of the Ood’ by Keith Temple, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. This episode of course features the return of the Ood, voiced by Silas Carson, who appeared in ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ in Series 2. In ‘Planet of the Ood’, the Doctor and Donna must uncover the mystery that’s happening on the Ood-Sphere in the 42nd century, since ‘the circle must be broken’ for the Ood to sing. There are special guest stars like Tim McInnerny (who’s been in ‘Blackadder’, the ‘101 Dalmatians’ live-action films and ‘Johnny English Reborn’ as well as the ‘Doctor Who’ audio adaptation of ‘The Well-Mannered War’) as Mr. Halpen in the episode. There’s also Ayesha Dharker as Solana Mercurio and Adrian Rawlins as Dr. Ryder. ‘Planet of the Ood’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Fires of Pompeii’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come to one of the best pseudo-historical adventures in the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series in Series 4, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna. It’s time for ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ by James Moran. This is an episode where the Doctor and Donna travel back in time to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii in 79 AD. This episode features guest stars who would become prominent in ‘Doctor Who’s history like Peter Capaldi (who would go on to play the Twelfth Doctor) as Caecilius and Karen Gillan (who would go on to play Amy Pond) as a Soothsayer. There’s also Tracey Childs (who has played Elizabeth Klein in the Big Finish audios with Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor) as Metella, Caecilius’ wife, and there’s Phil Davis (who I’ve seen in the BBC’s 2005 TV production of ‘Bleak House’) as Lucius. ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘Partners In Crime’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on Series 4 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is, in my opinion, the best season featured in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ and is my favourite. It features the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who previously appeared in ‘The Runaway Bride’ and she becomes the Tenth Doctor’s travelling companion in this season. We start off Series 4 with the episode ‘Partners In Crime’ by Russell T. Davies where the Tenth Doctor and Donna investigate Adipose Industries before they reunite with each other. The episode features the return of Jacqueline King as Sylvia, Donna’s mum, and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott, who previously appeared in ‘Voyage of the Damned’ and happens to be Donna’s granddad. There’s also special guest star Sarah Lancashire as Miss Foster. ‘Partners In Crime’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Series 3 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Series 3 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is the Martha Jones season in the David Tennant/Tenth Doctor era. It’s not a season that I would rate as highly as I’ve rated David Tennant’s first and third seasons, but there are some enjoyable gems featured throughout Series 3 which I’ve enjoyed a lot. 🙂 Continue reading
