Today, it’s time for us to check out the second ‘Doctor Who’ story in the classic TV series to be written by Robert Holmes, except it’s mostly missing from the BBC Archive, with one episode still intact – ‘Episode Two’. It’s also considered one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made, starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe. ‘The Space Pirates’ can be checked out on audio CD or as a download via Audible. ‘Episode Two’ of the story can be seen in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection as well as on Britbox. Here’s another one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ stories from the Patrick Troughton era! 🙂 This is ‘The Invasion’, an epic eight-part story where Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe face the Cybermen again. They also confront Kevin Stoney as the villainous Tobias Vaughn and they’re joined by Nicholas Courtney, who is promoted as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and is the leader of U.N.I.T., a new taskforce tackling alien invasions of Earth. It’s time for the season finale of Season 5 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Wheel In Space’, a six-part adventure that is sadly mostly missing from the BBC Archives. Only two episodes of this six-part story have survived – ‘Episodes Three and Six’. The story stars Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie. The story also introduces Wendy Padbury as Zoe, a new companion, and it features the return of the Cybermen. ‘The Wheel In Space’ can be checked out on audio CD or as a download from Audible. The two surviving episodes of the story can be seen in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection. The story can be seen in full with reconstructions of the four missing episodes and the two surviving episodes on Britbox. Continue reading →

In this four-part story called ‘The Moonbase’, Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Anneke Wills as Polly, Michael Craze as Ben and Frazer Hines as Jamie visit Earth’s moon where there’s a moonbase that can control Earth’s weather. Can the TARDIS foursome help the moonbase’s crew thwart the Cybermen’s attack on the moon? This four-part story is complete with two live-action episodes and two animated episodes. We’re now on the last of the pure historical ‘Doctor Who’ adventures from the 1960s. It’s time for ‘The Highlanders’, a four-part adventure where Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben find themselves in 18th century Scotland. They meet a band of Highlanders and one of them happens to be Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, who becomes the Second Doctor’s new companion in the story. 🙂 ‘The Highlanders’ can be enjoyed on audio CD or as a download from Audible. It’s time for Season 4 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! We’re also coming to the end of the First Doctor era, as we take a look at this four-part adventure called ‘The Smugglers’, starring William Hartnell in his penultimate appearance as the First Doctor. There’s also his new companions Anneke Wills as Polly and Michael Craze as Ben. In this story, the Doctor, Polly and Ben tackle some smugglers in the 17th century, once the TARDIS lands on a wild and remote stretch of the Cornish coast. The four-part story is currently missing from the BBC Archives, but ‘The Smugglers’ and ‘The Underwater Menace’ will receive the animation treatment soon later in the year.
