–UPDATED REVIEW ON AUDIO CD AND VINYL TODAY–
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve recently purchased a brand-new vinyl recorder player to play my ‘Doctor Who’ vinyls on. And because I’ve checked out the latest Big Finish audio story ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’ in my current ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season, I decided to revisit the Big Finish audio story ‘Spare Parts’ by Marc Platt, which has another version of the origins of the Cybermen on the planet Mondas. I regard ‘Spare Parts’ very highly and I prefer it over ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’. Not that ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’ is bad or anything. Far from it! It’s just I grew up with ‘Spare Parts’ first and I feel a leaning more towards that as a Mondasian Cybermen origins story compared to ‘Genesis of the Cybermen’.
In revisiting ‘Spare Parts’ on vinyl recently, I’ve also updated my review of the story with some cosmetic changes made to it and I’ve added an extra paragraph to the review reflecting my current thoughts on the story. The story stars Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Sarah Sutton as Nyssa. It features special guest stars Sally Knvyette (of ‘Blake’s 7’ fame), Derren Nesbit (who was in ‘Marco Polo’) and Nicholas Briggs as the Cybermen. The story is directed by Gary Russell. If you haven’t heard ‘Spare Parts’ yet as a ‘Doctor Who’ story, I highly recommend checking it out. It served as the inspiration for the Cybermen in ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ and the Mondasian Cybermen made a return in ‘World Enough and Time’/’The Doctor Falls’ in 2017.
Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my latest updated review on ‘Spare Parts’ by clicking on the link for it. You can purchase ‘Spare Parts’ either as a CD from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com, or as a download via Audible.co.uk, Audible.com or the Big Finish website.
Enjoy! 🙂
Stay tuned tomorrow for a revisit and an updated review on the Big Finish audio story ‘1963: Fanfare For The Common Men’, starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Sarah Sutton as Nyssa.
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
