Day Trip Report – ‘Madame Tussauds’ & ‘The London Eye’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Last weekend, I was in London where I got to see a couple of stage shows, including seeing ‘Fawlty Towers – The Play’ again and seeing ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ for the first time. I’ll be sharing a quick review on ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ very soon.

In-between seeing ‘Fawlty Towers – The Play’ and ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’, my best friend Stephen and I visited Madame Tussauds on Baker Street and the London Eye in Westminster on the Saturday. It was a very enjoyable experience visiting the two places.

I’ve visited Madame Tussauds before back in February 2022. This was after attending the ‘London Comic Con Spring’ where I saw Jodie Whittaker for the first time. My parents and I also visited ‘The London Dungeon’. It was different visiting Madame Tussauds again.

I had a good time, but the waxwork models were different this time round compared to visiting Madame Tussauds in February 2022. Then again, the waxworks had changed from that time I visited Madame Tussauds back in 2008 to years later in 2022, so there you are.

I’m amazed by how many photos I took of Madame Tussauds this time round as well as of the London Eye experience. There were plenty of waxwork models to enjoy in Madame Tussauds. Some were familiar, others not so much. Some had probably been newly-built.

There were plenty of waxwork models of many celebrities on display. This included Leonard DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Morgan Freeman, Timothée Chalamet, Brad Pitt, Helen Mirren, Eddie Redmayne, John Boyega, David and Victoria Beckham, five James Bonds (including Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan), Paddington Bear, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes and producer/director Steven Spielberg.

Of course, many of the celebrities are actors I’ve seen in TV and film. There were also real-life celebrities like Winston Churchill, Ed Sheeran, William Shakespeare, Emmeline Pankhurst, David Attenborough, Judi Dench, members of the Royal Family (including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Prince William, King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine, King Henry VIII and Princess Diana), Barack Obama, Elton John and Taylor Swift.

There was even a waxwork of a Greggs sausage roll in Madame Tussauds. How could they have a waxwork of a Greggs sausage roll there?! 😀 I mean, I like going to Greggs for morning breakfasts and sometimes I would have a Greggs sausage roll for lunch. But I wouldn’t think a waxwork model of a Greggs sausage roll is vital to be seen in Madame Tussauds. 😀

There were also waxworks of characters from the Chamber of Horrors section of the museum, which are very scary. 😮 I don’t recall a Chamber of Horrors section on my last visit to Madame Tussauds. It reminded me of the London Dungeon. 😀 One of the Chambers of Horrors characters was wearing a gas mask. I was thinking of “Are you my Mummy?” from ‘Doctor Who’ then. 😀

After that, I went on the Spirit of London ride at Madame Tussauds, which I greatly enjoyed. This included various displays of London’s history from Queen Elizabeth I to William Shakespeare to Guy Fawkes (?) to the statue of Nelson to Winston Churchill to now.

It was great to see the Marvel superheroes in the Marvel Hall of Heroes such as the Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Rocket and Groot of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America and Iron Man. It was a huge highlight for me. 🙂

This of course was before Stephen and I went to see the ‘Marvel Universe 4D’ film, which was very exciting once we put our 4D glasses on. I’m surprised the film isn’t official part of the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’. It could have easily been with so many familiar Marvel characters featured in the film.

The Madame Tussauds trip ended with visiting the ‘Star Wars’ section and seeing many familiar characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, a Stormtrooper, Chewbacca, Yoda, R2-D2, C-P30, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Jabba the Hutt, Rey, BB-8, the Mandalorian, Grogu and Ahsoka.

After my trip to Madame Tussauds, Stephen and I visited Westminster to go on the London Eye. The last time I visited the London Eye was with my parents back in December 2010. I vaguely recall the London Eye trip back then, and it was terrific to go on it last weekend recently.

It was so amazing to see the view below when being inside one of the capsules of the London Eye. I took photos of the London skyline whilst in the Eye itself. I was on top of the world then with seeing Westminster Abbey, the Thames, the BT Tower and the Shard.

When I attended Madame Tussauds last Saturday, I was hoping to see the waxwork model of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor from ‘Doctor Who’. That had been promoted a lot beforehand. Sadly, the waxwork wasn’t there, since there was only the TARDIS, which I had a photo in.

I double-checked to make sure, but I couldn’t find Ncuti’s waxwork anywhere, which is a great shame. Maybe the waxwork was being cleaned up or perhaps it had gone off to appear in a possible 20th anniversary TV special of new series ‘Doctor Who’. I don’t know.

I’m very thankful that I had photos with Ncuti Gatwa at the ‘London Comic Con Winter’ in November 2024, including one where we stood outside the TARDIS. I don’t need to worry about seeing a waxwork, as I’ve met the real Ncuti Gatwa in real life at a convention. 😀

Interestingly, on my way to the Adelphi Theatre to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’, I saw where the play ‘Born with Teeth’ was being performed at Wyndham’s Theatre on Charing Cross Road, starring Ncuti Gatwa. Quite frankly, I found that very surreal indeed.

To think Ncuti was performing in Wyndham’s Theatre whilst I saw ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ at the Adelphi Theatre. I took photos of the outside of Wyndham’s Theatre with the ‘Born with Teeth’ posters featuring Ncuti Gatwa, just for the sake of witnessing that. 😀

Whilst in London, I took a photo of a statue of Gene Kelly from the 1952 film ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ in Leicester Square, which I was surprised to see. I also took a few photos of Trafalgar Square in the evening, including one of the lions and one of Nelson’s Column. 🙂

The day trip in London on Saturday the 2nd of August 2025, including visiting Madame Tussauds and the London Eye was a very enjoyable experience for me. I was kept on my toes that day with visiting Madame Tussauds at 11am and visiting the London Eye at 2pm.

It was nice to do before my best friend Stephen and I went to see ‘Back to the Future – The Musical’ in the evening. It’s a shame I didn’t see Ncuti Gatwa’s waxwork in Madame Tussauds, but spotting the theatre where he was performing ‘Born with Teeth’ was nice. 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
