Quick Video Thoughts – ‘Reacting to the Kandyman!’ (Doctor Who)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I shouldn’t be talking about this, as I’m currently updating my Season 15 ‘Doctor Who’ reviews and I’ve yet to update my Season 20 reviews based on their ‘Collection’ Blu-ray box sets. 🙂 But this was released exclusively on the ‘Doctor Who’ YouTube channel lately.

So, I thought, why not talk about it as a preview for what’s to come when I get to checking out the Season 25 Blu-ray box set and update my reviews on the four stories in the season? I greatly enjoyed checking out this YouTube clip on a ‘Behind the Sofa’ feature. 🙂

This is on ‘The Happiness Patrol’, the second story in Season 25 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. It features Sylvester and Sophie of course, who are joined by Sheila Hancock who plays Helen A in the story. It was lovely to see her in this. 🙂

As I understand it, Sylvester and Sophie are going to be joined by different guests for each of the four stories of Season 25. For ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’, it’s with Karen Gledhill, for ‘The Happiness Patrol’, it’s with Sheila Hancock, for ‘Silver Nemesis’, it’s with Mark Hardy, and for ‘The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’, it’s with Jessica Martin. Very exciting! 😀

It was also nice to see the reactions of Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sarah Sutton watching ‘The Happiness Patrol’ as well as Bonnie Langford and Nicola Bryant. I’m looking forward to revisiting ‘The Happiness Patrol’ and see the full ‘Behind the Sofa’ item.

It’s going to take a while for me to get around to checking out the Season 25 Blu-ray box set as I’ve got to get through the Season 15 and 20 Blu-ray box sets first. I’ve also got the Series 14 Blu-ray box set starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson to check out afterwards.

Hopefully, these ‘Doctor Who’ reviews I’m hoping to update and provide new thoughts on will be shared as soon as possible. I do enjoy checking out ‘The Collection’ Blu-ray box sets of ‘Doctor Who’ with their ‘Behind the Sofa’ items and it was lovely to see this video lately.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂

The Kandyman may have been a sign of how over-the-top much of the final years of the classic Dr. Who were becoming. But when we realize the significance of the character for the dystopian society that The Happiness Patrol was meant to portray, then it’s thankfully still easy to appreciate how the Whoniverse’s science-fictional metaphors for real issues could work as well as Star Trek’s. Thank you, Tim.

      Thanks scifimike,

When it comes to updating my review on ‘The Happiness Patrol’ on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, there’s bound to a ‘Barbie’ joke somewhere, especially with painting the TARDIS pink in that story as well as promoting the new ‘Barbie’ movie via the ‘Doctor Who’ Facebook site in 2023. And the fact that Ncuti Gatwa has been in ‘Barbie’ too. 😆

      Best wishes,

      Tim 🙂
