Season 2 of ‘Doctor Who’ with William Hartnell on Blu-ray #8

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Here we are on the penultimate story of Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who TV series. It’s time for another one of my favourite stories from the William Hartnell/First Doctor era – a six-part adventure called ‘The Chase’, featuring the third appearance of the Daleks on TV. This story is notable for featuring the debut of Peter Purves in ‘Doctor Who’ where he plays Morton Dill in the third episode and Steven Taylor in the sixth episode. Steven Taylor becomes a new ‘Doctor Who’ companion after this story. There’s also the introduction of the Mechanoids in this story. ‘The Chase’ also features the departure of TARDIS regulars William Russell as Ian Chesterton and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright, who have been in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series since the beginning.

For this ‘Doctor Who’ story in the Season 2 Blu-ray box set, we have the return of the ‘Behind the Sofas’ where Maureen O’Brien, Peter Purves and Carole Ann Ford, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sarah Sutton, and Bonnie Langford and Sophie Aldred react to the story, which I’ve enjoyed tremendously. I’ve also enjoyed revisiting the DVD documentaries that are now on ‘The Chase’ Blu-ray disc, including ‘Daleks Conquest and Destroy’ and ‘Daleks Beyond the Screen’. There’s also the ‘Enter +++ Enter +++ Zero +++ Stop +++’ Mechanoids DVD Easter Egg discussion. Over the years, ‘The Chase’ has been criticised for its corny and comedic content, especially when depicting the Daleks in that fashion for a change. Do I consider those criticisms to be warranted in this ‘Doctor Who’ story?

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The Chase’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story as well as a review on the Target novelization/audiobook ‘Doctor Who – The Chase’ by John Peel, read by Maureen O’Brien who plays Vicki in the ‘Doctor Who’ story with Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Daleks.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 2’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
