SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
‘A Sparkle of Doctors: Volume 2’ has arrived! And sooner than I expected. 🙂 Originally, the Divergent Wordsmiths were going to release their ‘Doctor Who’ anthology of short stories to celebrate 60 years of the TV show in two volumes. Now, it’s getting a third volume in the set. Lovely! 😀
It’s amazing that this trend is currently happening with certain 60th anniversary releases of ‘Doctor Who’. Originally, I planned to release ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ as a two-part story. Now it’s a three-part story. The same with ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’, as it’s now three volumes instead of two volumes. 🙂
I wonder if Russell T. Davies went through that process of writing his 60th anniversary specials of ‘Doctor Who’ due for release in November 2023. I wonder if he originally planned to write his 60th anniversary story in two parts instead of three. It’s quite a possibility, but I wouldn’t think it very likely.
Regardless, Volume 2 of ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’ is now available and I’m very pleased that ‘Interdimensional Rescue’ is complete with ‘Part 2’ in the collection. ‘Part 1’ of the story was released in Volume 1 earlier this year. At last, my readers can get to enjoy the two-part story in full.
‘Part 2’ of ‘Interdimensional Rescue’ continues where ‘Part 1’ left off, as it has the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy joined by the Unbound Fifth Doctor (played by Callum Woodhouse) as well as Adric, Erimem, Maxwell Edison and Sarah Jane Smith. As a team, they have to face the menace of Diamant.
As well as ‘Part 2’ of ‘Interdimensional Rescue’, the second ‘Sparkle of Doctors’ volume contains a reprise as well as other stories featuring various Doctors and companions. There happens to be a four-part story called ‘Armageddon’s Touch’. It’s spread throughout Volume 2 for readers to enjoy. 🙂
‘Part 1’ called ‘History’s Scarecrows’ is by Alan Camlann/Wolfie and AFJ Kernow whilst ‘Part 2’ called ‘Tempus Familias’, ‘Part 3’ called ‘Pariahs in a Pod’ and ‘Part 4’ called ‘To Hunt Her Own Funeral’ are by Alan Camlann only. All four episodes of ‘Armageddon’s Touch’ feature the Thirteenth Doctor.
In ‘Part 3’, the Thirteenth Doctor is joined by Traskey (played by Linda Hunt), who you might have seen on the front cover of Volume 2, produced by Matthew Purchase. Traskey (sometimes Traskeya and Lady Traskeyaragelosar) happens to be a Time Lady who appeared in the introduction of Volume 1. 🙂
She’s also mentioned in the intermission of Volume 1 called ‘Where Reason Met the Dark’. Linda Hunt herself has been in the 1984 film ‘Dune’ and the 1990 film ‘Kindergarten Cop’. For me, she voiced Grandmother Willow in the two Disney ‘Pocahontas’ films. Traskey’s character is very significant in ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’ once the Thirteenth Doctor meets her.
There’s also the story ‘Luv That Doctor!’ by Christopher Swain-Tran, which features the Twelfth Doctor, Clara and Missy. Interestingly, some of the story is in TV script form, I believe. 😀 There’s also ‘It’s Cold Outside’, another story by Christopher Swain-Tran, which features the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz.
At the end of the anthology, there’s an Intermission by Alan Camlann called ‘Thawing Tensions’. No doubt this is to build up to the grand conclusion that will be in Volume 3 of ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’. It seems to be very exciting, especially concerning how the Thirteenth Doctor and Traskey are concerned here. 🙂
Going back to the front cover for Volume 2 by Matthew Purchase, it’s nice to see Nyssa on it to represent ‘Part 2’ of ‘Interdimensional Rescue’. It’s also nice to see the Thirteenth Doctor, Yaz, the Twelfth Doctor, Clara, Missy and the aforementioned Linda Hunt as Traskey to represent their stories in Volume 2.
It seems that ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’ has become bigger since it started releasing Volume 1 back in April 2023. Clearly the editors Alan Camlann, AFJ Kernow and Sherlock have put a lot of effort in making this three-volume anthology worthwhile, and I’m pleased my two-part story is a part of that.
Here’s a link to the page on my blog for ‘Interdimensional Rescue’, now containing links to ‘Parts 1 and 2’ of the story. There’s also a link to ‘A Sparkle of Doctors: Volume 2’ on the Divergent Wordsmiths website. Go to page 73 for ‘Interdimensional Rescue – Part 2’ in ‘A Sparkle of Doctors: Volume 2’. The story is also part of ‘The Fifth Doctor by Tim Bradley’ series and it’s a part of the ‘Short Trips by Tim Bradley’ collection on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. 🙂
I hope you’ll enjoy ‘Interdimensional Rescue – Part 2’, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Billy, the Unbound Fifth Doctor, Adric, Erimem, Max and Sarah Jane. Or if this is your first time, I hope you’ll enjoy the complete two-part story as well as the other stories in the two ‘Sparkle of Doctors’ anthologies by the Divergent Wordsmiths to celebrate 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’. I’m eagerly intrigued as to what Volume 3 will be like once it’s released in November 2023, I believe.
Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Linda Hunt, having first seen her in the original Dune, would certainly make an interesting Doctor Who guest star. Thank you, Tim, for this article.

Hi scifimike,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Linda Hunt. I’ve yet to see the original ‘Dune’ film and the recent remake films. It’s interesting the Divergent Wordsmiths have cast Linda Hunt as Traskey in ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’, especially in the four-part story ‘Armageddon’s Touch’ with the Thirteenth Doctor. Hopefully I’ll get to read the story as well as the others in the two volumes of ‘A Sparkle of Doctors’ soon when I’m on holiday in West Wales this September.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Tim 🙂
