Quick Trailer Thoughts – ‘The Star Beast’/’Wild Blue Yonder’/’The Giggle’ (Doctor Who)

SPOILERS ALERT!!!

Okay, so here are some thoughts by me on the latest ‘Doctor Who’ trailer. First of all, the backdrop for the reveal of the titles of the three 60th anniversary specials happens to be the title sequence from the 2005-2010 Russell T. Davies era. I hope that’s not going to be the title sequence for 2023. 😐

I mean, aesthetically, it doesn’t match to the latest blue diamond-shaped ‘Doctor Who’ logo, and to me, it feels rather backward. This is one of the reasons why I’m a little sceptical about the upcoming neo RTD-era. It’s almost like the TV show is playing safe with repeating some familiar RTD-elements.

Whilst I’m looking forward to seeing David Tennant and Catherine Tate again as the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna, the show should be about moving forward and not backward. I hope that won’t be the case with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby once we get to Series 14. 🙂

Incidentally, the latest Regency photos of Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor and Millie Gibson’s Ruby look nice. Anyway, back to the trailer. There’s a moment where Donna asks, “Where are we?” and we have a ‘REDACTED’ caption. Almost like the location in these upcoming specials is being kept a secret for us.

I’m sure the answers will be revealed to us on what’s going on in the story, but like the previous teaser trailer, there’s not much to go on. There are nice shots of Beep the Meep and Neil Patrick Harris as whoever he’s supposed to be in this story, but I’m still none the wiser about what’s going on.

The titles for the three specials themselves aren’t really exciting. I know I’ve given the three episodes for ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ individual titles, but at least I gave my upcoming 60th anniversary special an umbrella title. Will there be an umbrella title for the three upcoming 60th anniversary specials? 😐

Or is the overall story simply going to be ‘The Star Beast’/’Wild Blue Yonder’/’The Giggle’? I’m looking forward to the upcoming 60th anniversary story on TV, but there’s still not much for me to get excited about. I do wonder if any more past Doctors and companions will appear in the specials.

Let’s see what will happen later in the year. Incidentally, I’ll be reviewing ‘The Star Beast’/’Wild Blue Yonder’/’The Giggle’ in December as part of my ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon as opposed to when the specials come out in November. So, you will have to be patient and stay tuned.

Thanks for watching and reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂

      Hi scifimike,

I’m holding back on the rumours that Neil Patrick Harris is the Toymaker, because unless it’s actually confirmed it’s the character he’s playing, I can’t comment. He might be another Master or the Valeyard for all I know, even though elements of him as the Toymaker appear to be evident. Or he could be Spider-Man in live-action form from the 2003 new animated series. 😆

      Thanks for your comments.

As far as great casting for a Dr. Who villain is concerned, from Sir Derek Jacobi as the Master to Richard E. Grant as the Great Intelligence, we can expect that Neil’s role is a most pivotally important one. I remember rumors that Gillian Anderson could be the next Rani and that would be interesting.

        Hi scifimike,

I’m sure I’ll enjoy Neil Patrick Harris in whatever role he’s playing in the three upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ specials. I enjoyed him voicing Spider-Man in the 2003 ‘new’ animated series and I’ve just enjoyed seeing him in the first ‘Smurfs’ movie on Netflix.

        Many thanks,

        Tim 🙂

The role I remember Neil best for is in a TV movie called Not Our Son which convinced me how superb he could be at playing villains.
