Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
One of the things I’m very pleased about regarding my blog is how I’ve been able to share my reviews on the ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring Nyssa of Traken (played by Sarah Sutton in the TV series and the Big Finish audios) via ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ for about every year.
When I was on the Big Finish forum, sharing my ‘Doctor Who’ timelines, in 2015, I attempted to do ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ by sharing my reviews on the stories featuring Nyssa from ‘The Keeper of Traken’ to her latest story, which I’d been sharing on Amazon.co.uk.
Once the Big Finish forum closed in September 2015, ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ stopped halfway in my reviews on the solo Fifth Doctor and Nyssa stories. When I started my blog not long after, I decided to re-do ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ and start sharing reviews from the end of January 2016.
It was very fitting I did that, since it was the 35th anniversary of Nyssa’s debut in ‘The Keeper of Traken’ on the 31st of January then. It was very exciting for me to share my reviews on all the Nyssa stories that I enjoyed. Not just the TV series, but also the Big Finish audio dramas.
And it was an opportunity to do reviews on the book adventures featuring Nyssa, including ‘Cold Fusion’, ‘Empire of Death’, ‘Goth Opera’, ‘Zeta Major’ and ‘Asylum’. There were also the Short Trip audio adventures read by Sarah Sutton, including ‘The Toy’ and ‘The King of the Dead’.
The original ‘Nyssa Challenge’ began from the end of January 2016 with ‘The Keeper of Traken’ and ended in June 2017 with ‘Dimensions In Time’. I’m thrilled to bits I was able to do ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ then, as it shows how very enthusiastic I am about Nyssa’s stories.
Since then, more stories featuring Nyssa have been released by Big Finish with Sarah Sutton reprising her character. I’m very pleased I’ve been able to do mini-‘Nyssa Challenge’ review seasons every Christmas, as it’s great to check out new Nyssa stories ever year.
Not only that, but I’ve been able to update reviews on certain Nyssa stories that I’ve enjoyed and give new thoughts on them compared to when I initially reviewed them. This includes the TV stories and their Target novelizations as well as some Big Finish audios. 🙂
I’ve updated my reviews on ‘Cold Fusion’ and ‘Goth Opera’, thanks to their Big Finish audio adaptations, starring Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding and the like. Not only that, but I’ve provided separate reviews on the audio adaptations and the original novels.
In my original reviews on the two books, I reviewed them as TV and Big Finish audio stories. In updating my reviews, I translated the original book reviews into audio reviews and wrote new reviews for the books, identifying similarities and differences between them and the audios.
I’ve updated my reviews on all the TV stories featuring Nyssa, thanks to ‘The Collection’ Blu-ray box sets for Seasons 18, 19 and 20. Plus, I’ve updated my reviews on the Target novelizations when brand-new audiobook readings are provided for them over the years.
I’m very happy that I’ve created ‘The Works of Sarah Sutton’ page attached to ‘The Nyssa Challenge’, which includes reviews on some of Sarah Sutton’s non-‘Doctor Who’ works, such as ‘The Moon Stallion’ TV serial and the 2019 unabridged audiobook accompanying it.
Of course, ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ as well as for the rest of ‘Bradley’s Basement’ wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for me seeing Sarah Sutton at conventions over the years. I’ve greatly enjoying seeing and chatting to Sarah, as it’s fuelled my enthusiasm for Nyssa. 🙂
That and sharing my reviews on the stories that Nyssa’s been in via ‘The Nyssa Challenge’. I’m currently looking forward to sharing more reviews on new Nyssa stories in my upcoming ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season from December 2025 to January 2026, which I hope on soon.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
