Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I started going to conventions in February 2010 with ‘Fifth Element’ at Chiswick in London. It’s amazing to think that I’ve been to so many conventions over the years and have interacted with many celebrities who’ve been in ‘Doctor Who’ as well as the fans.
For my first convention, I wanted to meet Sarah Sutton, who plays Nyssa in ‘Doctor Who’ and is my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ companion. Not only have I seen Sarah at more conventions over the years, but I’m pretty lucky to regard Sarah as one of my best friends.
I don’t think that happens for many ‘Doctor Who’ fans who go to conventions, but I’ve greatly enjoyed seeing Sarah for chats about various things as well as ‘Doctor Who’. I’ve enjoyed conducting interviews with Sarah, which I’ve shared online as videos on YouTube.
I started sharing convention reports on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ with the first one on ‘Pandorica 2015’ in Bristol in September 2015, shared in October that year. Since then, I’ve shared reports on every convention I’ve attended since doing my blog in September 2015. 🙂
I’ve also shared blog posts containing memories of the conventions I attended pre-2015. This includes conventions like the ‘Regenerations’ conventions in Swansea in 2010, 2011 and 2013. There are also the Fantom Films and the Showmasters events that I’ve attended.
I’ve been to so many places in the UK from attending these conventions, including London, Birmingham, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare, Newcastle, Leicester, Plymouth and more. I’ve even attended conventions in Cardiff where I live, which is pretty incredible. 😀
As well as seeing Sarah Sutton at conventions, I’ve been able to meet many of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV stars like Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, Matthew Waterhouse, Mark Strickson, Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred and many more.
I’ve had a chance to meet some of the new TV series stars, including Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor) who I’ve met three times at conventions. I’ve also met David Tennant (the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors) at a convention, which I didn’t think would ever happen.
And I’ve met the more recent ‘Doctor Who’ stars including Ncuti Gatwa (the Fifteenth Doctor) and Millie Gibson (Ruby Sunday). So far, I’ve met Millie at two conventions, including London in 2024 and Milton Keynes in 2025. I’m looking forward to seeing her again in Cardiff.
Attending the conventions has also given me a chance to embrace more of the fandoms I love as well as ‘Doctor Who’. This is at the multi-purpose events like comic cons where people get to dress up as their favourite superheroes and characters from TV and movies.
This includes Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc. It’s also amazing to see many displays of cars at some of the conventions like the Delorean from the ‘Back to the Future’ film trilogy as well as the Batmobile from the 1989 ‘Batman’ film, which is great!
I’ve also attended a ‘Star Trek’ convention in Birmingham back in October 2018 called ‘Destination Star Trek Birmingham’. It was a pretty amazing experience and one where I got to have lots of photos with the stars compared to having autographs signed by them.
In 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, I was able to see Sarah Sutton, my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ star, for a Zoom call-style of convention online called ‘Spearhead: Day of the Time Lords’, which I’m very pleased about it, as it cheered me up in that dismal year.
The latest convention I attended was at the ‘Bury Comic Con’ in June 2025 where I got to see Sarah Sutton, Peter Davison and Janet Fielding. Going to these conventions are fun and I’m glad to meet these ‘Doctor Who’ stars in person, having enjoyed them in the TV series.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
