Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve seen ‘Transformers One’, the latest ‘Transformers’ movie at the cinema. I enjoyed checking out this film. I certainly found it better than the five Michael Bay-directed ‘Transformers’ movies and I did enjoy it more than ‘Bumblebee’ and ‘Rise of the Beasts’.
Not that the latest two live-action films were awful. I just think ‘Transformers One’ works well as a film, especially in focusing on the Transformers as characters and not having humans to get in the way. It’s certainly fascinating to view the film as a prequel of sorts. 🙂
‘Transformers One’ takes place on the planet Cybertron and is set before the Autobots and Decepticons end up on Earth. I don’t think this film is part of the Michael Bay ‘Transformers’ continuity nor do I think it links entirely to the 1980s ‘Transformers’ G1 era.
It could have easily been, but I’d like to think ‘Transformers One’ has its own continuity. I’d like to see more of this CGI animated version of ‘Transformers’ than the live-action films. It’s also very intriguing to see this as an origins story for Optimus Prime and Megatron.
In the film, Optimus and Megatron are depicted as mining robots within the city of Iacon. They end up going on an adventure to Cybetron’s surface where they discover the truth about Cybertron’s leader Sentinel Prime and obtain transforming powers to confront him.
It should be noted that Optimus and Megatron aren’t called that for most of the film. Optimus is referred to by his original name Orion Pax and Megatron is referred to as D-16. I sort-of knew some of the Transformers’ history in that regard before I viewed this film. 🙂
The Quintessons appear in this film and they were featured in the 1986 ‘Transformers’ movie as well as the five-part TV series story ‘Five Faces of Darkness’, which depicted some of Cybetron’s history involving the Quintessons. I like how it’s presented in this film.
I must admit, I’m not as into the 1980s G1 ‘Transformers’ era compared to when I was into ‘Beast Wars: Transformers’ in the 1990s. But it was still great to check out this film and uncover how Optimus and Megatron were originally friends before they became enemies.
The film’s stellar cast includes Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, voiced by Chris Hemsworth, well-known for playing Thor in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’. There’s D-16/Megatron, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry, who has voiced Jefferson Davis in the ‘Spider-Verse’ films. 🙂
There’s Elita-1, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, well-known for playing Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in the ‘MCU’). There’s B-127/Bumblebee, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, who’s been in films like ‘Toy Story 4’, 2019’s ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Wonka’.
Starscream appears in this film and he’s voiced by Steve Buscemi, who I’ve seen in the second and third ‘Spy Kids’ films. There’s Alpha Trion, voiced by Lauren Fishburne – Perry White in the ‘DC Extended Universe’ films – and Sentinel Prime, voiced by Jon Hamm. 🙂
There’s Airachnid, voiced by Vanessa Liguori, Soundwave, voiced by Jon Bailey, Shockwave, voiced by Jason Knopiso-Alvarez, Jazz, voiced by Evan Michael Lee, Zeta Prime, voiced by James Remar, Darkwing, voiced by Isaac C. Singleton, Arcee, voiced by Jinny Chung, and Skywrap, voiced by the film’s director Josh Cooley. All are very good. 🙂
‘Transformers One’ has been a very enjoyable film to check out at the cinema recently. I’m glad I’ve seen it and how it depicts Cybertron’s history before the civil war between Autobots and Decepticons takes place and how Optimus Prime and Megatron became enemies.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
