Season 2 of ‘Doctor Who’ with William Hartnell on Blu-ray #5

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Today in our look of Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series via its Blu-ray box set, it’s time to check out one of the most ambitious ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made from the William Hartnell/First Doctor era. It’s time for ‘The Web Planet’, a six-part adventure by Bill Strutton. This story has our heroes – William Hartnell as the First Doctor, William Russell as Ian, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara and Maureen O’Brien as Vicki – visiting the planet Vortis. On the planet, there are a variety of insect-like aliens, including the butterfly-like Menoptera, the ant-like Zarbi, the worm-like Larvae Guns (Venom Grubs), the woodlice-like Optera and the spider-like Animus.

Once again, I’ve enjoyed the opportunity in revisiting this ‘Doctor Who’ story and updating my thoughts on it, based on my recent viewing via the Season 2 Blu-ray box set. I’ve also enjoyed the ‘Behind the Sofa’ item on ‘The Web Planet’, featuring Maureen O’Brien, Peter Purves and Carole Ann Ford, Janet Fielding, Wendy Padbury and Sarah Sutton, and Bonnie Langford and Sophie Aldred. Over the years, ‘The Web Planet’ hasn’t been regarded very highly by the general public and by certain groups of ‘Doctor Who’ fans. Do I think ‘The Web Planet’ is underrated or possibly one of the worst ‘Doctor Who’ stories ever made?

Please feel free to check out, read and comment on my updated review for ‘The Web Planet’ by clicking on the link for it. This contains a review on the TV story.

You can purchase ‘Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 2’ on Blu-ray either from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
