‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Series 12 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Series 12 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is where Chris Chibnall finds his mark as the then showrunner. Jodie Whittaker is also in her stride as the Thirteenth Doctor, along with Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yaz. But Series 12 isn’t entirely warmly received. 😐

There are ups and down throughout Series 12, with ‘Orphan 55’ being a mess of an episode, ‘Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror’ being a good pseudo-historical adventure, ‘Praxeus’ (in my opinion) being underwhelming, and ‘Can You Hear Me?’ being reasonably good in focusing on the main characters.

‘Spyfall’ starts the season off on an exciting note, especially with featuring the return of the Master, as played by Sacha Dhawan, who confronts Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor. It also begins the build-up to the reveal of the Timeless Child, which had been first mentioned in Series 11’s ‘The Ghost Monument’.

The build-up continues in ‘Fugitive of the Judoon’, where we’re introduced to Jo Martin as the Fugitive Doctor, who happens to be an incarnation of the Doctor before William Hartnell. Whilst this is something that has upset fans over the years, there’s no denying this was a surprise revelation. 🙂

‘Ascension of the Cybermen’/’The Timeless Children’ resolves the build-up and it’s revealed that the Timeless Child is actually the Doctor. Again, this has upset fans and divided the fandom. Speaking personally, it was very refreshing to have this revelation and uncover more of the Doctor’s history. 🙂

Series 12 has also made me be more aware of multiple timelines in the ‘Doctor Who’ universe. ‘The Haunting of Villa Diodati’ isn’t exactly my cup of tea in being an alternative ‘Mary Shelley meets the Doctor’ story, but it’s fascinating there are more versions of already established stories in the series.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
