‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Series 11 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For Jodie Whittaker’s first season as the Thirteenth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, I found it pretty good. For me at least, I found the writing of the series heralded by showrunner Chris Chibnall to be a major improvement over the previous efforts of Steven Moffat. It was a very welcome relief for me overall.

Series 11 can be considered a settling-in period for both Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall. This is pretty evident when the stories themselves tend to be a straightforward mix of doing historical and futuristic adventures. This all harkens back to the days of how the William Hartnell era was handled.

Another thing that harkens back to the William Hartnell era is the decision to have Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor joined by three companions – Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien, Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair and Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan. In all fairness, I found the three companions very likeable people. 🙂

Whether the stories are better in having a crowded TARDIS for a new TV series audience is a matter of opinion. But unlike previous companions that had inconsistent character development e.g. Clara, I thought it was good for Jodie’s Doctor to have companions that wanted to be there in the TARDIS. 🙂

Jodie Whittaker impressed me from the first moment I saw her in ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth’. She quickly became one of my favourite Doctors in the TV series overall – both classic and new. It geared me to check out every episode of Series 11 in late 2018, giving me happy and cherished memories. 🙂

The lack of classic monsters in Series 11 like Daleks and Cybermen is pretty evident, but that wasn’t a big deal for me. I hoped they would appear in future episodes. Thank goodness they did. 😀 Series 11 is a good season to introduce us to the new female Doctor and her three friends having adventures.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
