Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
In my opinion, Series 5 is the strongest of the three seasons featuring Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor as well as being the strongest season in the entire Steven Moffat era of ‘Doctor Who’. It starts off well in ‘The Eleventh Hour’ and it concludes well in ‘The Pandorica Opens’/’The Big Bang’. 🙂
Over the years, Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor has grown on me, and it’s thanks to his relationship with Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and eventually with her and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams because of that. They have become a fondly remembered TARDIS trio in ‘Doctor Who’, which I have enjoyed.
At the time of watching Series 5 of ‘Doctor Who’, I was writing my ‘Fifth Doctor by Tim Bradley’ series of stories. It’d be hard to deny that Amy and Rory as a couple in the TARDIS with the Eleventh Doctor helped in inspiring me to write Nyssa and Billy as a couple in the TARDIS with the Fifth Doctor. 🙂
The ‘cracks in time’ story arc works quite well from beginning to end throughout Series 5, especially with enhancing Amy’s character as a ‘Doctor Who’ companion. It took a while for me to get into Amy, but when she made a self-sacrifice to save Rory in ‘Amy’s Choice’, it endeared me to her more.
Series 5 is notable for reintroducing the Silurians in ‘Doctor Who’, and it’s where many of Neve McIntosh appearances in ‘Doctor Who’ began. 😀 There’s also the return of Alex Kingston as River Song, who continues to be a mystery when the Doctor is meeting her throughout his TARDIS travels.
As I look back on Series 5 of ‘Doctor Who’ in 2010, I recall having fond memories of the season. Despite my disappointment with the Paradigm Daleks in ‘Victory of the Daleks’, the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory stood out for me and I was looking forward to seeing more of them in future seasons.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
