‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Series 2 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For David Tennant’s first season as the Tenth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, Series 2 features a couple of returning elements from the classic TV series. Most notably, it features the return of the Cybermen. Whilst Series 1 featured the return of the Daleks, it was Series 2’s turn to bring back the Cybermen. 🙂

There’s also the return of two classic ‘Doctor Who’ companions in the form of Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith and robot dog K-9, voiced by John Leeson. Both appeared in the same episode – ‘School Reunion’ – and helped to form the marriage between the classic and new TV shows of ‘Who’.

The two-part season finale of Series 2 features the big confrontation of the Daleks and Cybermen, which is something I’m sure many ‘Doctor Who’ fans wanted to see for a long time. ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ and ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ are two major highlights in Series 2.

Series 2 is also notable for being the last season for Billie Piper as regular companion Rose Tyler in the new TV series. Having won many people’s hearts in Series 1, Rose’s exit was signaled when Billie decided to leave. And she leaves on a dramatic and emotional swansong – connected to the Doctor.

Right from Series 1 onwards, it was developed between Rose and the Doctor that they were in a romantic relationship. Whilst not spoken on the Doctor’s part, it was clear from Rose’s perspective that she loved him. She even declares that to them as they say farewell to each other in ‘Doomsday’.

But of course, Series 2 features tremendous enthusiasm and energy throughout David Tennant’s performances as the Tenth Doctor in his first ‘Doctor Who’ season. David Tennant became one of my favourite Doctors in the new TV series, and it’s clear he’s a huge fan of the TV show in his performances.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂

The return of the Cybermen may have been the most questionable element for this season of the new Dr. Who, given how it may clash with how some fans, including myself, prefer to remember them from the classic era days. The Cybermen of the 80s were the best for me. But still seeing a long-awaited showdown between the Cybermen and the Daleks was greatly appreciable. Thank you, Tim, for your summary.

      Hi scifimike,

Glad you enjoyed my summary on Series 2 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. With me of course, it’s the other way around, as I assumed the Cybermen in ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ and ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ were how the Cybermen should be done and I didn’t realise how different, unusual and unique the history of the classic TV series Cybermen were. I still prefer the new series Cybermen from 2006, but I appreciate the 1980s Cybermem being favourites for certain ‘Doctor Who’ fans, including yourself. I’m glad you enjoyed the showdown between the Cybermen and the Daleks in the season finale of Series 2 of new ‘Doctor Who’.

      Many thanks for your comments.

      Tim 🙂
